Arkon Mount

Just wanted to let you know - I love the BT-338 and OCN4. I love them. But I do not care for the Arkon mount. It does not hold the Axim X50v very well.

Which mount? I just bought the cm-7000 (x50v powered mount) Did not really need it but thought if I was going to use it in a car I'd better get it. Mine is already on the way but could you describe what you don't like about for people that might be ordering it.

BTW- Could you check a couple of things in OCN4 for me? 1. Can you switch it to metric (km)? 2. Can it find these towns Longview Alberta Canada, or Black Diamond Alberta Canada. These are in the area where I ride my motor cycle and would like software that includes these areas.

Which of the mount from Arkon you have received?
a) Arkon Vent Mount
b) [Upgraded] Arkon 9" Windshield & Console PDA Mount w/ Swivel Adapter
c) [Upgraded] Arkon CM720 Powered GPS Ready Mount

At any rate, all the above choice comes with the Gear locking machanism, where the arms should not relaxes even under hot temperature. How long do you mean by "eventually wiggle free"? 5 hrs or 5 days?

I bought the powered mount for $40 extra - It connects to the windshield and it will not hold more than a couple of hours. There is no locking mechanism except to sqeeze the PDA with the arms as tight as you are willing to go.

The arms should not relaxes. If it does, submit a return request and we will replace it with a brand new one.

I think they all will be about the same but I will wait and see if Calgary has any better luck - If he does I will do what you said Joekee. I just got mine on Wed.

Picked it up from fedex and drove for about two hours in my bumpy truck. The mount was moving around like crazy so I think it is a fair test. There is no way it is coming loose. I gave it a couple of good tugs before I attached it to the arm. I had the standard battery in and no case. I wish now I had bought the stardard sena case instead of extended as this mount will be keeping my axim juiced up all day.

Not to insult you but you did notice the button the extends the arms out all the way then you sqeeze them tight on the axim? I first slid it in until I saw the button and gave it a hard press, until then I thought I had the same problem as you. If not you diffently have a defective unit.

BTW- I could not believe how easy the setup was. I had MS streets and trips and iguidance already loaded so I set up everything (including the mount)in the parking lot and the gps unit was functional right away. No drivers or anything from the install disk loaded. I am going to read up tonight and do a proper pairing.

Calgary - I did notice the button - that is ok no offense taken. I push the button and extend the arms all of the way out and then press them together to get as tight a fit as I feel comfortable. I am pressing the arms straight against the axim so I do not feel comfortable squeezing too hard. Maybe I do have a defective unit but it just does not seem to me to be that effective in terms of holding the unit. The SEIDIO seems to look like it could do a better job. I think where this mount misses the boat is having a form fit for the unit. Example a sleeve on the bottom or a cutout in the arms in the foam that would fit over the width of the pda but not far enough to cover the screen etc. I do not like the idea of having a unit that would fit every PDA because I would rather have a better fit.

Fair enough. I agree it could be better and the look is a bit caotic with all the wires sticking out. The price was good especially since I wasn't sure I would use one and now love it and maybe would have spent more. Nothing against this mount the quality is quite good but for more bucks better can be had. I think your unit must be defectie as I tried to pry it out and it is in there solid. Can't use the extended batter (without velcro at least ) and put it in there or a case for the matter. One thing I don't like is that the power cord is too short and have to stretch it around my steering wheel to position to my right. The power cord can't be unpluged so it just hangs there if you don't or can plug it in, makes it a pain to put away at night so that it is not stolen.

Anyone know if this mount will hold a X5 well?

If not I want another mount with a built in Speaker, however I really don't want it to hang off the windsheld, it seems like it would be too distractive.

I to have a Arkon CM720 Powered GPS Ready Mount and it will not hold to the windshield for more than a hour before falling off. I cleaned the windshield and everything but it will not hold. It took long enough to get one sent to me in canada, that I cannot be bothered to try and send it back for a new arm or anything. It is just easier to get a differnet brand than bother with RMA and everything.
