2.5 jack to seperate mic & headphone on SDA
As you know SDA has 2.5mm jack and comes with a stereo headset which has a earphones + microphone hard wired. So that tells me it's jack is three stage (Stereo Left - Stereo Right - Microphone Mono) so if I plug a stereo 2.5mm jack in there, it might turn into a Stereo Left - Microphone Mono.

What I want to do is to retain it's setup, but get a connector that will seperate the microphone input & allow 3.5mm or 2.5mm female or male jack at the other end.

I want to hook up the earphone end to speakers and have a seperate microphone hooked up to it.

Any ideas?

Get out your wire cutters and buy a few parts at Radio Shack. Use a simple ohmmeter to perform a continuity check on some partially-stripped wires. Of course, somebody does make a splitter, and this one is on sale: 2.5mm to 3.5mm Audio Jack Adaptor with Mic for cell phones with 2.5mm jack ($6.95 plus $3.95 shipping for $10.90)
or on ebay:
eBay: Stereo Adapter 2.5~3.5mm w/ Mic BlackBerry Pearl 8100 (item 300054586790 end time Dec-28-06 07:52:38 PST) ($5.99 plus $6 shipping, $11.99 total)

I searched Google: 2.5 mm 3.5 stereo microphone adapter - Google Search
And I think if you have a stereo 2.5 headphones only, it should come out as stereo in that jack.

I knew someone had some idea what I was talking about Thanks Karl.
I actually ran into few of those, I would still need the mic jack to be a separate input so that I can pull the mic & speaker output to two separate locations. With most of those I found, mic is still attached to the cable. I might be able to strip one of those, but while doing I can mess it up.

I will search a bit deeper to find if there is anyone Y shaped for individual mic input and speaker output. If you have seen one like that, please let me know.

Edit: This might be it.. PPC Techs PPCPADPT12 2.5mm to 3.5mm Mic/Audio Adaptor Larger Image - MobilePlanet Inc.

Also, I might be wrong about 3 part 2.5mm jack, it could be 4 part (4 conductor), I will have to check the headphone/mic set that came with my SDA which has answer, mic, stereo earphones.. so it could be 4 conductor.

I saw the PPCtechs part, but didn't include the link because it was $22, way too expensive for a basic splitter/adapter. Your plug will be a 4-conductor plug if it has stereo plus mic. The conductors will be L, R, Mic, and Common ("ground"). I think Answer button just shorts Mic to Gnd momentarily.

I will try to set up this with a stereo, hook up the connection to stereo's input and connect mic to the split end. I am wondering if there will be a lot of echo with this set up..

I know this thread is very very old but I want to do this exact same thing for my LG VX8300. By the way that PPC Techs part is a 3-conductor because it doesn't support stereo.

The PC Techs part DOES work, you just need to attach an extra adapter to it for Mono to Stereo, you can get em at RadioShack. I've been searching for this adapter for 2 years XD.
