Blackjack & Bluetooth
I bought a Blackjack and ended up returning it because I couldn't get full use of the bluetooth features. I could never get a bluetooth activesync connection. Also, I use 3G for a modem for both my laptop and my pocket pc and couldnot get either to work. Finally, I couldn't get my bluetooth phone headset to work.

Question is, has anybody successfully connected a Blackjack to a ppc or pc for modem purposes. I had limited success getting internet access through a private area network (PAN) through my pc but couldn't replicate that on my ppc.

Any ideas? or intelligence on this topic?

Maybe Cingular blocked some of the BT features, like Verizon did last year with their Motorolas?

Dumb question, but did you turn the bluetooth in the phone on? It defaults to off.

I was uble to setup Activesync connection without any problem. On BlackJack you have to switch bluetouth on and make it visible. Then use a menu add a device (your PC) and select a service ActiveSync from a list of two available options (another available service was audio or something like that, don't remember).
Then you go to activesync on your BlackJack and click menu - conect via bluetooth.
If you have Activesync installed on your PC the new connection wizzard will start and you will be abble to create new partnership, as usual.

As about modem connection I never tried it before now. I really didn't need it as I was very happy to check e-mails and serf internet using BlackJack. IM also is working nicely. But after reading this post I decided to check if it works for me. I was using my Acim x51v. And it didn't work. I have widcomm bt stack installed on Ax. But probably it wont work wis MS stack as well as a problem with BlackJack BT stack. When I tryed to explore BlackJack from Ax it says that device doesn't provide any services. When I tryed to add Ax to BlackJack the only service from Ax that BlackJack sees was com port. I was trying to add com ports to BlackJack (it has this option in menu), but Ax didn't see anything from BlackJack anyway.

So I quess that it just doesn't work. I have Nokia 6234 bt phone, and I didn't have any problem with using it as a modem. When I explore this phone from Ax it sees modem service and few others including com port, file exchange, etc.

Oh, well, spend 2 hours in google and finaly was able to use BJ as bt modem. But it only works with PC. I didn't find a solution how to use it with WM5 PPC yet.

Apparently BJ uses PAN (not DUN). So you have to enable internet sharing on BJ. There is no icon for that. Using file explorer you have to go to /Windows directory on your BJ and run the file IntShrUI. Here you have to select Bluetooth PAN for your PC connection and clicl connect. On your PC just connect to PAN. It worked for me. Just tested it.

Bluetooth works with all that listed above.

Internet Connection Sharing is an app that comes standard in Windows Mobile. Run the App, select Bluetooth, connect. Then Go to your PC and turn on the Bluetooth PAN. Done.

Bluetooth Activesync. On your PC's Bluetooth settings... make an outgoing Serial Port (Com 5). Go into Activesync. Allow connections on Com 5. Pair up your PC with your blackjack. have the blackjack look for new services on the PC, select the BT Serial Port. Go to Activesync on the phone, and connect via bluetooth from the menu. Done.

Headphone pairing... my H700 once in pairing mode, is a 4 step process. Search for new device, select Handsfree Profile, "0000" for passcode, rename if you want. Done

All of this is covered in the manual.

If you turn on Bluetooth PAN from within the Internet Connection Sharing, the Axim should find the blackjack's PAN and connect to it.

It is interesting. Never was able to connect my Ax51v to BJ PAN. No problem connecting laptop, but not ppc. How you did it?

I was able to get the BlackJack configured and the Axim and it see each other, however I get a "requested service not available" from Axim and even thought BlackJack says connection successful, it doesn't work. What did I miss?

I have heard ATT (Cingular) is making some changes to their data offerings/plans with regards to how different devices work on their network. Could have something to do with that maybe...

I have had no trouble with ActiveSync via BT though...in fact its all I use as my laptop has built in BT.

I got it to work wireless on my mac, through the blue tooth. It works great! I'm very pleased but very disappointedly by the at&t network....I experience technical difficulties at least once a week.

I purchased a bluetooth usb2 dongle from the local Compusa that is going out of business, for $16. Was able to activesync with no problems, also easily able to use bluetooth headset. Only thing I've not tried is to use phone as modem, but am sure it would work.

Internet Connection Sharing
Have you checked into ICS for using your BT as a modem with a laptop? I do it via the sync cable when I am on business trips and it works very well. I haven't attempted it via bluetooth but I know the settings are there. The only issue is actually finding ICS on your BJ. It is available in both WinMo 5 and 6 on the BJ but it is not readily available on the Start menu. I don't have the instructions handy but if you use your favorite search engine you should be able to find the instructions.
