Advance apologies to the original poster, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I'm also looking at Blackjacks for my wife and myself. Instead of starting a new thread, thought I would just add to this one.

Same questions as OP, regarding software. I have owned an axim x50v, and 51v in the past, so I do have some registered software still sitting around. That being said I'm familiar with WM, but how does the smartphone edition differ from the regular edition (I know there's no touchscreen).

My wife would be coming from a Palm Treo, so what kind of a learning curve do you think there would be?

And Specifically, anyone in the Chicago area using one? Hows the coverage, signal, call quality, ect.?

I had a BlackJack. I installed a few things, nothing major. There wasn't much you could install, as far as freeware goes.

Plus, most of the things that seemed good required the use of Internet and I didn't have a WAP plan (they're a ripoff). I used AIM quite frequently though, and texting on the phone is great.

Overall it's a good device but without a WAP plan it's just a phone, and as a phone, there's better. That's why I sold it and got a regular cell phone (which I like better -- Sony Ericsson W810i, very moddable).

There is the BlackJack 2 out which comes with WM6. I ran the leaked WM6 on mine but the BlackJack 2 is also thinner, has a better camera, better bluetooth support, faster CPU (which is DEFINITELY a plus), better battery life, etc.

Good luck with your purchase dude.

Hi everyone, I hope I can shed some light on the BlackJack phone. I purchased the BlackJack II in March. And frankly i love it, runs smoothly, has WM 6, havent installed many programs on it except microsoft's live search. Only problem is the phone does not have wifi, you have to get the data plan with the phone, its $35 more and the text plan which is $20 on top of that. So consider you budget when deciding. Phone is thinner, more memory, camera is good, and responsiveness is great. Like I said havent installed much on it, I still have my Axim v51x where i have all my registered software. Keep you updated.
