Have a Heart guys! What Chris is trying to setup is a decent platform for Aximsite members to interact and trade among themselves. What Stevenator means by saying "respectful" is that he hopes there are genuine trades and offers.
Also Chris did say it is a Trial run!
So lets see how we can make an efficient system of this.... and we hope it succeeds!
Good going Chris! :approve:
Well if the 50 post requirement is earned by good posts and not someone replying to threads with 'ya 'i agree' or one word post count boosts,
ya i agree
There : a case in point!
It gets me closer to the 50 mark but as F2504x4 points out, it is not a 'quality' post! Maybe there should be a way to rate the posts and then qualify.
As for me, this is probably my 4th non-tech post, where I am discussing something other than an Axim.
Also I would like to know if anyone is going to trade anything with me in Bombay, India anyways!!!:rolling: (shipping/handling cost becomes unviable) So I really do not have to rush a post
well one way we could do this is to use a feature of VBullition , the reputation points feature, its where users rate each others post and rewards those that are helpful, but the down fall of the system is that it can be abused which can invalidate it. Heres some info on this.
but if all comments that a users recieved could be made public and viewable it would be easier to monitor by all...and would keep each other honest.
This could work if all comments are made public, good and bad alike.
Quote:
All full users have a certain reputation power. This depends on the number of posts they have, the reputation they have received themselves and how long they have been a member etc. When you approve of a post, you increase the poster's reputation by the number of reputation points you have. If you disagree with their post, their reputation points will decrease by the number of reputation points you have.
If you are not yet a full user (i.e. you do not have 100 posts and have not been a member for 90 days) you do not have any reputation power. While you can still comment on posts, you will not alter the poster's reputation points.
Every time you agree or disagree with a post, your comment will appear in their user control panel. Each comment will either have a green icon (to show that the user agreed with your post), a red icon (to show that the user disagreed with your post) or a grey icon (where the user has no reputation power so is not a full member).
Everyone starts with 10 points and one green icon associated with their profile. As they gain (or lose) points, their total increases or decreases and the number of green icons next to their profile changes. The more green icons there are, the more the user is respected in the forum.
You can find out your current reputation level from your Control Panel. If you scroll to the bottom, you will see a "Latest Reputation Received" section, where you can find out your current reputation level and view the most recent comments posted about you.
Thanks for trying it again, Chris! Should be interesting.

I have a security question related to selling a used axim (or any other PDA, for that matter). Is doing a "hard reset" enough to make sure that your old information is gone forever, or can someone that's a lot more tech savvy than me still be able to retrieve my old data? Thanks in advance!
I like this idea. The main reason is twofold. I tend to trust more people here on Aximsite in regards to buying and selling this stuff than just the general public (so it's nice to know if a buyer or seller is also on Aximsite). Second, although I appreciate the classifieds here, I enjoy having the security and protection that e-Bay and Paypal offer.
If you do the user rating thing, you might want to disable it in the "political discussion" forums, because that is more opinionated than facts, like "this fixed my Axim" or "This isn't working on my Axim".
On another note, I think this is a great idea to allow ebay sales, keep up the great work Chris!
I am NOT a fan of Ebay. I think most sellers on Ebay or volume resellers. Meaning they buy a large quantity of a specific item at a very low per item price with the intent to resell it on Ebay at a profit...if possible. I know there are exceptions to this. But that's my general perception of most Ebay auctions.
I think this site was developed for the Axim PDA enthusiasts. When members sell their hardware here it's usually sold at a price that is intended to offset their next PDA purchase and not necessarily for profit. It's a little like selling to a friend or family member here. Well, that's how I look at it.
My opinion is "What goes on in Ebay stays in Ebay".

It clears the Nonvolatile Memory completely, restoring the device to the original factory condition in memory.

so no one would be able to retrieve the information after a hard reset is done. I find this interesting, when you can recover data from a format and unerase but a hard reset you can not? I am still skeptical on that
I think that e-bay auctions are fine, so long as they are used as extensions of the REGULAR sales process. In other words, a user can post a "For Sale" thread here at MobilitySite, following all regular rules. If, after 5 business days, they are not seeing the offers they would like to see, then they are free to provide a hyperlink to the SAME item being sold in THEIR PERSONAL Auction on Ebay, as a way to increase the probability of a sale of THAT item.

If I may suggest (changes in bold):
User must attempt to sell the item here at MobilitySite first over a period of 5 business days prior to posting auction.
User must be a member for at least 30 days before posting an auction link.
User must have 50 posts or +2 iTrader rating.
User must provide sale information details on the item for sale (unit make & model, asking price, etc), not just a hyperlink to the auction.
Link MUST be posted in the Classifieds section only. Not in sigs, not in the X51v Hardware forum, HERE!
Absolutely no commercial sales.
Failure to adhere to these rules will result in being cited an infraction
Hi....just want to be sure before I post about an auction item that I have on ebay.....do I just open a new thread for the post or is there a specific place in Classifieds for ebay stuff? Sorry. I'm an idiot and need to ask :)
