I'll be fine. I just don't like to be lied to and deceived and more than anything I don't want him to be able to do it to someone else.

It is refreshing to see admins take such an active role instead of a hands-off approach and this truly make this site one of the best out there.
Hoever, I keep thinking.. do you have enough disclaimers posted on this site? It is very difficult to oversee a marketplace and assume any type of responsibility/liability be it seller rating or just pure matching/contract resolution as you seem to be engaging in now...
The biggest issue as I see it was mentioned a while ago in the original thread in that dude's age (if indeed he is underage), they simply can't be held liable for contracts that they engage in (yes, even buying CD etc... they can legally back out of it or fail to deliver since the contract was never valid).
This imo is simply a mess.

Wow! That looooong post was certainly entertaining! Not to mention educational!

First of all: Joshua, you didn't believe him at all from the very start, yet still felt compelled to go through with the sale. Your desire for a "unbelievable deal" was more powerful than your extreme caution.

Second: To the handful of members who became so protective of the poor "kid" and defended him so gallantly - you all were more integral to the scam than anything else he did or said!

This was classic! All of the elements of how the term "con" got its name - "confidence game". This grifter had his detractors stumbling to prove he was a fraud by denouncing his grammar and spelling (Which actually was above par in the post-internet era), and his defenders feeling they were protecting a poor, well-intentioned, enterprising young man.

I would be truly surprised if he hasn't "sold" iPaqs the same way on iPaqHQ, and other specialty items on other specialty forums. He does his homework, studies and knows his "market", and will be quite successful right up to the day they slam his cell door shut!

Well, they were more trying to get people to be nice to him rather than defend him.

I don't think "Steeda" was that bright. He didn't cover his tracks very well....

You know - things like this are what makes headlines and gets people (like the rest of my family) to not trust the internet as a method of buying things. I have bought on ebay but have a set rule that i wil only go to auction for less than AU $100. Other than that for big items (and sometimes very much wanted items) its buy now.

I dont use paypal cause as a seller i dont use it. BUT - josh, this sux doesnt it?
Try being nice and pretend that it was a mistake. If he pulls through, good for you.
Just dont send him you axim till you got your x30.

Good luck and may the force be with you,

Always two there are, a master and an apprentice.
But which one have we caught? The master or the apprentice?

Most of the time, a deal that sounds too good to be true usually is...

I am the first one to want to save a few dollars when possible, but it all depends on where my savings are coming from.

As I said before, along with other members, I didn't believe this kid from the start, but there were those who gave him the benefit of the doubt. Again, when it comes to sending money to a total stranger based on his "word", I play on the side of caution.

A con-person is just like a salesman, and what makes a good salesman is that s/he is more knowledgeable than their buyers, so their "lies" tend to sound more believable

Joshua, I know none of this changes what happened, but maybe you can try to sell the x3 on ebay and try to regain some of your money back...

I know - but that's exactly what he counted on.

Methinks maybe you speak too soon.....

He's already gaining sympathy and complacency again. He may not be done.

And I'd wager that he's: A) Well past the age of majority, and B) Has made a tidy sum doing this before he ever showed up here.

I was "in the business" in a manner of speaking (and that's about as much as I'll say about that!), and he's slicker than you think.

I disagree, all he wanted was a sucker to pay with COD or Money Order.

Huh? He is done. He has been banned. We've notified all sites that he is a member of. We have his address, phone number and he has one chance to return the money before we call the police.

That would go against what we have learned.

Not really, his address is correct, it matches up with a phone number we have. COD requires giving his Bank Account info to UPS, so we have that tracked. As I said, he isn't very smart. The paper trail he has left is just too broad for me to believe he is anything more than an idiot.

I have given this guy till noon tommorow to contact myself, James, and Joshua. He has left too much of a paper trail as James mentioned.

The whole thread was out of whack. I am thankful that I was alerted that there was a storm brewing there. I could not have prevented the deal that was made, but hopefully the eduacation we got was worthwhile. (too bad it was at a users expense)

I do not like to see members attacking other members really, but in this thread, I felt it was not without merit. The guy did not seem to tell the truth in any posts.

Sorry for the situation guys/gals.... Hopefully we can prevent it in the future.:approve:

It always hurts when this happens. Sad thing is that I will always be wary (more so than usual)when buying from here. It's a shame.

Oh well, on with the show.

sorry in advance, i have been playing alot of detective type games, anyways, does anyone personally know joshua, because personally i cant imagine ANYONE making a deal with that person after everything, like no offense but joshua has been posting around the same time all the other guys screen names have, but it would be the perfect cover for him to make another screen name and buy the item from himself, the whole "i got a x3 and not a x3o" thing i dont know anyways, just my 2 cents

OK my 2c:
That COD WAS CALLING FOR A REJECTION.
Josh, no hard feelings but you took your chances against all good sense.

This said something is not right. If it is a scam why sending an X3 at all?
Why not send a rock or nothing at all?
Something is not right I'm telling you..

Nico
