nos71n, I do not need parts anymore. I fixed the click wheel by soldering a piece of wire to it. Eventually I will replace the player.
I have instructions on how to take them apart without destroying them.
Remove the click wheel. Use a small screwdriver, push it in between the case and the bottom of the click wheel and pry it out. this causes the least damage to it.
Remove the top and bottom rubber caps. A razor blade works well. It is held on by adhesive.
IMPORTANT!!! remove the click wheel before removing the main board. If not, the contacts may be torn off of the click wheel (like mine). It is very hard to fix and does not work as well afterward.
Remove the screws that hold the top and bottom plate. There are 4 of them on each plate.
The battery is be removed from the bottom.
The main board slides out of the top with the hard drive attached.
The screen can VERY EASILY be scratched on the aluminum frame. This also happened to me.
The hard drive is mounted on the back of the main board and is held on by 4 screws. Some of them are covered by the screen and the "control board" the board holding the play/pause buttons. The control board is held on by adhesive and can be pealed off and stuck back on later. The screen mounted on a metal plate. Removing the screen from the plate will break it. This plate is held on by metal tabs and a solder joint. The solder joint can be cut with small wire cutters then the plate taken off. This gives access to the screws holding the hard drive.
The hard drive is either a 1.8 inch 4200 RPM 20 or 30 gb Hitachi Travelstar hard drive.
