A stretch but everything i have heard/thought of that i liked.. im bringing some ideas from the dell.com forum -- i love the dj and not all of these suggestions are mine but i am compiling as much as i can... dont flame me for writing so much because they are not all my ideas! lol... someone should write a petition (i forgot the website) and include all of the things we want in a new firmware or the next model and submit it to dell once we get enough sigs...
* Automatically Read as a Portable Hardrive without drivers or software !
* Return to Last Highlighted Selection from "Current Track" Screen
* Continue playing a track Until Finished after it has been removed from the Selected Music List
* Fix the problem with the DJ when your playlist are over a thousand songs and it says something like 1023 of 105 because it doesnt have enough room to fit the digits
* Add more EQ bars & add more places to add custom EQs
* Fast foward song and be able to hear the track being fast fowarded
* Support to read texts and add written notes
* Give a cover for the Charging Port when not in use!
* When playing songs in all tracks continue playing list instead of stopping--- possibly auto create a playlist of ALL Songs and \/
* Allowing Queing of music in selected songs (sort of like winamp)
* Allow Editing of tags from the Dj
* Able to at least copy songs to DJ from another computer to the mp3 list (you can listen to them on the DJ) drag and drop
or
* Able to transfer to and from DJ on any computer using drag and drop without extra drivers/hardware (including mp3s to listen to)
* Option to have backlight always on (possibly only when connected to charger) and more options such as 5 minutes
* More detailed battery bar (possibly %)
* Be able to upload voice recordings onto your computer
* When sorting songs alphabetically disregard the 'A,' 'An,' and 'The'
* Security Lock (lock dj with password)
* Crossfade option
* Option to display Albums sorted by Arist first--- but also leave the artist selection how it is (still be able to click artist and show all songs) -- maybe show the albums but also have a place to click all tracks by artist or something-- or just leave it how it is and just edit the Album section
* Allow more options from playing track/selected track ... more from this genre, more from this artist, more from this album, repeat this song
* Builit in FM Tuner w/ ability to record from radio
* Built in FM Transmitter (like samsung napster player)
* Capitilization should not matter when sorting (e.g. artist 'joe' should be the same as artist 'JOE')
* Small games (not important but cool)
* Option to Adjust font size of text to fit more things on the screen at once
* Audible and .ogg support (not familiar might be the same thing)
* Open source firmware (could be useful)
* Allow for the editing of the order of a playlist and to add songs to a playlist
* Fix the constant rebuilding problem and the screen splitting problem
* Ability to change backlit brightness setting
* More idle shutdown settings ( 10 minutes)
* Clock and calender (its probablly already in there because if you create a voice recording it shows the time and date but something to view it)
* Alarm Clock and Sleep timer
* Contacts
* To start recording press the record button twice to avoid accidental recordings
thats all i got so far lol... well i dont even think i want everything here because it would make the dj to clustered but some of the stuff would be nice

Yeah, how about if anyone wants one of those (not listed on the master list) they post the ones they want.
Also, I would like for the DJ to ignore "The" infront of artists, like The Shins would be sorted between Santana & Simian. WMP does this, and it keeps things organized more. The DJ would still show "The Shins" but it would be sorted as if they were called "Shins".

Also, it should not show "Shins" and "shins" as different artists.

From "eppitek" I would second the following that I have not already (1 is the first * point and so on):
4,5,11,12,13,15,16,19,20,21,24,27 (more supported files the better),29,30 & 33

1] Speaking of Shins and shins, I think it'll be a good idea if the dj or at least music match will automatically convert the first letter of every word to be UPPER CASE and the rest to be lower case.
2] Something that will allow us to edit the track/s info/etc. using the DJ.
I don't think it'll hurt anyone :D

i think all of these requests are a given. it's like asking, "do you wish your car would get 45 miles to the gallon?" nobody is going to say they DON'T want these things so i don't think there is a need ot have 4 people agree w/these staements. they are pretty much rhetorical requests. needless to say, i want all of the items listed above.
i'm giving dell until january 7th to make an announcement or release a firmware upgrade. unless movement is made in some direction i'm basing my decision to return the DJ on the macworld speech by steve jobs on the 6th. i don't think a "mini ipod" will be released(how can you sell a HD based player that's $100 for 2Gb when you can't buy a 512MB thumb drive for less than $100?) and quite frankly i don't want or need one. however, i am interested to hear about the next direction of the ipod and whether a color lcd ipod will be released that will play videos or if there will be new ipod firmware. based on dell and the announcement i'll be making a final decision.

I say the same for you, please stay on topic and stop flaming people. If you want to start a new thread about the flaws of the ipod, do it. But this isn't the place. -emp

yes i agree, they may be a given, but i want to treat them like all the other suggestions, it is easier, and less biased that way. i don't want to be the one to decide if it is someone being picky (like having a built in FM broadcaster) or if the masses really want to see a plausable upgrade in firmware.

I really think some people should realize that a firmware upgrade wont give it FM capabilities.....

For me, both of these are necessary and really are things I expected it to do out of the box.
Also, I would like to see more granularity to the battery life display.

****sorry about the confusion
i know that fm transmitter/receiver cannot be put into the dj via firmware..... but if there was ever a dj version 2.. it would be nice to have that feature..some other stuff there would also apply to this
i didnt realize on the top i said through firmware so i also included or in a future model

if you want to see the complete updated list go to
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/bo...message.id=2531
if anything else gets suggested im gunna update it there since dell is more likely to see the stuff there because it is their own forum.... no offense to this one cuz its great but just trying to make sure dell notices it asap
