Heh.....not going to see many portables that will handle SHN. :)

Actually, I've never seen one. I'd say about 99% of the MP3 player customers could care less about SHN, and 95% probably have no clue what it even is.

However, if there ever was a portable that could handle SHN, I'd love it!

Yeah, I figured that SHN is on the way out ever since FLAC came into the picture... but I figured I'd throw it in there anyway :)

So, do you think Dell will ever fix any of the problems/add the extras that have been listed in all of these posts? Or do you think they'll just let this one go as-is and fix/add everything for the next release?

I think they'll take care of many of the actual problems that are listed in some of these posts, as they have gotten numerous e-mails, calls, etc. about them. However, there are many problems/features that are likely unable to be fixed/added with a firmware update.

Best we can do is wait and see. :)

It depends on how the DJ handles power offs. If there is a storage chip that gets constant power (even in the "off" state), then I guess it could be possible to have a clock. But even if there is a way, I doubt added features will be on Dell's list of priorities for an initial firmware update. It could be possible down the road though.

Just have to wait and see.

could this be a reason why the iPod's batter life is only around 8 hours???

It could be, but some have said that it really runs closer to 9-10 hours. But it all depends on use.

But that is why it's battery will run down in a couple of weeks if it is not in use. Just like a Palm or PPC. One of the reasons that I would like to keep the PDA functions out of the mp3 player. One of the reasons I like both the DJ and the Karma. But other people have other needs.

I would highly doubt it. A chip to keep up with small settings (like a clock or song position) requires extremely little power. I would imagine that the DJ has some type of storage chip that has constant power, as just about any electronic device has one nowadays.

Anyhow, shouldn't really affect battery life very much.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone left a DJ sitting around turned off for a few weeks? Notice any battery drain?

Jordan,

I agree but the iPod has to do a lot more. It has appointments, alarm clock, etc. These take power to continue to function and be ready to alert you when the time comes.

How can anyone keep their hands off a DJ for two weeks!! You got to play it!

By the way, my DJ must be a boomarang. It has returned!!

The DJ would have to have a memory chip because it can recall your song position. THe clock thing would be a good addition, yet, not neccesary.

Aside from the song blending/fadng feature like that of iTunes for the longer playlists, I think that one of the more useful features that I'd like is for the firmware to auto detect and select appropriate fm bands a la iPod and IGriffin FM tranny. For real, a tiny add on fm tranny thats powered by the dj itself would be pretty dope. There should be more options to take advantage of such a great battery. It's a shame that griffen tech has no plans for dell.

So... we got a nice amount of updates.

However, do you think Dell will ever make the DJ a plug-&-play device?? (no drivers needed)

Mount as a HD in Windows

I am definitly for this one. Especialy if you could see ALL types of data (audio and data files) by just using Windows Exsplorer.
