what in the hell are you talking about? i'm reencoding my library completely...they're all encoded at 128 now (that's what i ripped at when i was a noob) and i wanna reencode them at either 192 or a vbr of 128-192

and just a quick question, anshu...are you using your CMOY with the fontopias? hows that workin out? just curious cuz i'm using a MINT for my senn px100's and hd550's...

thanks

dude, you relize that reeconcoding from the 128 source will not do any good it will only do harm, its like if i take a photo and it cuts off the head of the person, i cant bring it back in the darkroom by making the photo bigger

cmoy amp works real nice, only use it for long trips tho

Sounds like you bought an amp just to look cool. If you truly knew music then you would know never to reencode a lossy format. First of all the mp3 is already at 128 kbps, ripping that to 192 kbps is essentially taking that crappy quality to begin with then ripping it down even lower. You're going to have to rerip your collection or keep them all at 128 kbps.

I searched and searched but couldn't find an answer.

Is there a limit on bit rate for the DJ to playback? (i.e. will it playback a bitrate of 320kbs or higher?)

TIA

Umm..192 is higher than 128...so that would be ripping it even higher
Am I wrong?

No your right. I use 192-256 for my bitrate, awesome sound quality. Oh and I THINK the highest bitrate a DJ will play is 320 kbps. Somone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ripping from a CD at a higher bitrate improves the quality. However, reencoding 128 kbps mp3s as 192 kbps mp3s loses quality. This even goes for burning to a CD and re-ripping. In the decoding and encoding (probably all encoding), you would lose quality. Anytime you compress in a lossy format, you lose quality.

Also, I saw somewhere that 320 is the highest bitrate the DJ will play, at least for mp3s, and I believe that it is the highest bitrate technically allowed in the mp3 specification.

ok. i kind of figured that, but thanks for clearing it up. Would it actually lose quality or sort of stay the same? since you start at 128, and try to bring it to 192 but it loses some quality. Would it go back down to around 128? or even lower?

you would lose quality and take up more space.....don't do it.
