Dell Tablet PC - I decided, after a second anonymous tip about Dell in the process of working on a Tablet PC, I would make a forum for it.

If true then I hope Dell simply markets tablet versions of the Latitude series. As far as umpc's go, I really don't have a use for a tiny notebook with or without a slide out keyboard. In fact my needs are for a notebook and a ppc. Of course an X51v smartphone (ppc) would be great, but that's another forum.

It's hard for me not to drool over some of the tablet pc's I've seen: the latest Asus, Fujitsu, HP Compaq, and the IBMs. It's comes down to size and weight for me. The Axim gives me the ability to write on the screen and a small portable pc, like my Toshiba is great for a portable work station. I work with young kids (3-5 year old's) and I need something small, durable, and quick to access. As Onenote continues to develop more compatibility to sync with computers in both directions and imbed outside video clips as power point does, I will be happy.

The new Dellie needs to come up with a Flybook look-alike with built-in WiFi a/b/g, Bluetooth, LAN, modem, and a built-in SIM slot for travellers supporting either GSM or CDMA.

That would be a killer device.

Aaarrggghhhh, no!

T-Mobile beat Dell to the punch.... they're releasing the Ameo!

Dell....you need to brand this device else you need to forget about releasing a new Dellie....

Dell tablet
At my job they've been hoping Dell comes through with a tablet. They began by giving Axim X30's to all our builders and when Dell stopped making them our company IT is dropping the IT support. Difficulty there was the corporation had sunk a good deal of money making a portable and dock-updating version of the construction scheduling software by that time.

A long-nebulous plan that the Dell tablet would make marking the house building plans entirely digital has been floating around. I'm not entirely sure our builders are geeks enough to do this but the Dell tablet would have to be robust enough to make this possible. Also has to survive the environment of a pickup truck at construction sites too. The Axim did okay once they bought the Rhino Skins.

The up side is they're offing the Axim's with a $50 purchase fee to employees. Down side is we can no longer sync them to our work computers.

It's True
I think we should be seeing a Dell Tablet within the next 3 months. I talked to a Dell rep at a Vista/Office 2K7 launch event and he said that by end of 2nd qtr 2007, Dell should have it released. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Dell Tablet PC will be Latitude Line
I met with a Dell representative 2 days ago and was told that the new Tablet PC is based on the Latitude line and will be coming out closer to end of summer 2007 (probably Q3 2007). I have been a loyal Dell customer, but almost bought tablet PCs from another maker until told that it is coming. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Dell has been working on a Tablet PC for a long time. I saw one at a tradeshow in Arizona in August of 2005.

You do think that the pda's will be phase out once the new iphone come up? i made a comparison with my Axim v51 & a picture of an iphone click Here check it out! I think that Microsoft though should step-up to the table and make an upgrade to the Zune that will be less bulky like the new slim blackberry's but still touch screen.

More Dell Tablet Info
Just my 2 cents on this one. Being a Dell Certified Technician I received a notice about some training coming up mid to late 3rd quarter of 2007 or late Quarter 2. What I hear is that the tablet they are working on is based on the Latitude series. Looks like it is based on the D420 as far as size and weight and will be released hopefully October 2007. Once I find out more information, I will be more than happy to pass it along.

More Info Today
So the date I was told today is October 2, 2007 for the Dell Tablet release. No specs yet but as soon as I get more info on it I will pass it on. Best to everyone.

I'd be happy with a smaller, lighter unit with a 32GB SSD instead of a HD. Longer battery life, instant on. And make it thinner than the PSP. And not as wide. Like a Super X51V!

I was thinking Dell should tag on its name to the new Samsung Ultra Q and be done with it.
