Dell Tablet PC I decided, after a second anonymous tip about Dell in the process of working on a Tablet PC, I would make a forum for it.

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/86174

As a german nerdpage claims that there are rumours on asian newspages on a new dell handheld with telephone functionality, but without giving sources.

You can't believe most of these articles anymore. Look at all the articles floating around surrounding WM6. But it would be cool though.

Ironic that this report originates from Digitimes, which is the same source for the report that Dell was shutting down handheld R&D... At this point, I'm loathe to take anything too seriously until I see an actual statement from Dell.

Awhile back I posted in a reply that our Dell Rep confirmed to me that they were working on releasing a Pda/Phone. We were out at lunch and I nonchalantly said to him something like "Now that the PDA is going by the wayside, when are you going to come out with your Phone?" He said we'd be hearing about it later this year. He was shocked I knew about it. However, unknown to him was the fact that I pulled it out of my butt and was just yanking his leg.

I don't understand how you have a Dell Rep. What do you mean? Why are you going to lunch with this person?

Questions remain though... Will it actually happen, and will it be offered on both CDMA and GSM networks?
Based on the Dell/Verizon ExpressCard EvDO option and mobile broadband options for current notebook lines, I'd like to see a Dell Handheld for both mobile systems.

Sadly, even if the rumors are true, they won't have a production model (probably not even a prototype) out in time for my New Every Two. I'm hurting for a new phone, and I doubt there will be suitable models when I reup in July.

Regardless, this goes against all the information I received from a Dell Government Rep when he confirmed termination of the Axim line last August at the Air Force Information Technology Conference here in Alabama. A handheld/smartphone is still a handheld...

A Dell Rep is a sales representative. Our company buys enough Dell equipment that we have a sales rep just for us. The one we went to lunch with actually moved up to be a supervisor over some of these representatives a month before we went to lunch. He took a couple of us from our company out to lunch to see how we liked the new rep that replaced him, and to schmooze us into buying a large quantity before the end of the quarter.

With Dell coming late to the game, will they really be able to compete with the iPhone,Palm,RIM, etc... ?

I don't see why the wouldn't be able to compete. They have a pretty good customer base of Axim users who like the product and would probably like to see the series continue in the the new form.
