Dell Tablet PC - I decided, after a second anonymous tip about Dell in the process of working on a Tablet PC, I would make a forum for it.

Letīs find/define the X51v successor
The disappearance of the Axim x51v is a fact right know creating an emptiness in the market that smartphones can`t fill: We have a very large piece of market that is not satisfied with the regular products we can find out on the market, i.e.: smartphones with too small LCD`s, low speed processors, etc.

Since the X51v was actually made by HTC I went to HTC`s website to see what products they have to offer guessing their products will have the same quality of the x51v. So I found the HTC Advantage X7501: it has the specificatons that naturally evolves the X51v givin an improved product: 5" VGA (wow! still enough small to be very handy), build-in 8Gb hard drive to fill in with a lot of applications and plenty of space for mp3 and videos plus 4 new added characteristics that personally I think they are not a must, but if these guys did it... better for us:

- Build-in GPS
- Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- 3 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash
- TV or VGA Out lets you output screen contents to an external viewing device

Mmmmm... Iīm thinking this baby have all the things I would expected to find in the long dreamed Axim x52v.....

So rapidly I went to ebay in search of the HTC Advantage X7501 to see who have it for sell and how much it costs but sadly I didn`t find it.... then I went to the "Where to buy" link of the HTC`s website and find a list of countries in which is sold and surprisingly found that the United States of America -the largest market for this kind of products- is not listed..... Instead you can find listed European and African countries. I started to think "We think Dell stopped the Axim line because it is not a profitable business for them, but HTC, the company who actually manufactures the x51v found profitable to design their own PDA to sell it to smaller markets", even more, I looked for the distributors list in spain and visited website`s of "El corte inglés", "Carrefour" and "PC City" and couldn`t find the Advantage X7501.

I believe that if Dell, by arriving to an agreement, had adopted, launched and promoted the Advantage X7501 as the awaited x52v Not only ALL of us -Axim users- couldn`t wait to have one in our hands to try it, also Palm, iPaq, Clie, Toshiba and even smartphones users would turned their heads to consider to have one.

The emptiness in the market is so profound that I would even forgive Dell`s mistake if they ask apologies for abandon the line and corrects their fault by launching the mythical and long dreamed x52v........ but this probably will not become a reality so I propose the following:

People here propose the PDA brand/model that better replaces the x51v(HTC, O2 or whatever), then, we choose by poll the best one the majority of us think it is. If the majority have a 60% or greater the we conform a comission to talk with the winner manufacturer to sell their model trough this website or ebay giving us a preferred pricing.....

So to start I propose HTC Advantage X7501 as the better Axim x51v substitute (I donīt have one, this criteria is only done by reading it`s specifications)

mmmm am I the only one who think this way? what thinks the rest?
Please give your proposals and opinions

Welcome to the site - quite an undertaking for your first post! IMHO, this is an old, tired subject. A site search will reveal several threads such as this and while it may be noble, I beleive what is discussed through these threads has very little impact on what type of PDA some manufacturer will create. We do have quite an impact on some software vendors but relatively little on someone such as HTC, HP or Dell. The bottom line is a lot of people are moving to converged devices. I'm one of the few people in a large high-tech corporation that use a PDA - most just use a phone or converged device. PDA's have generally not been for the mass market. My .02.

I cried when I saw the HTC Advantage's sticker price.
You'd have to be frikin loony or "well to do" to buy the thing.

$1,224 USD so damn high and unjustly so. I can only dread how much the HTC Shift will cost.

I am getting promoted mid June so maybe I'll go head and get it, and sell my X51v if I like it.

Major announcement from HTC on June 5

Think it is the announcement party for the Elf.

Maybe for the Omni too?

Yes Noiro I completely agree with you, $1224 USD just for a PDA that is very eazy to be lost, dropped or stolen... I think I will have to wait for something better.

Once you have sold your X51V what gadget you will buy? a smartphone? a UMPC? I just had my x51v for one week when it was stolen... now it is very difficult to me to get accustom to my old X30 again, mainly for its low resolution screen and small memory.

Thank you for the welcoming Paul, you made me realize that despite I have been a member and reading posts on this site since months ago (and benefit from others expertise), I have never contributed before by giving opinions....and sudenly come to propose a new thread.... thank you again for your welcoming and taking your time to give your point of view, I will participate more in the future.

I'm greatly saddened to think that if I ever have to replace my X51v then I'll most likely lose VGA, CPU speed, RAM, and screen size.

I'm still in shock that the market doesn't warrant a device such as the X51v.

I don't get the whole converged craze. Bigger devices with smaller screens, less resolution, less memory, and less cpu power for twice what an Axim (which beats all their specs) used to cost. So it makes phone calls too. Big whoop. If my x51v dies or is stolen or lost, I'm going back to pen and paper. It'll be all I can afford.

Ditto.

Drop the phone and the camera from the silly thing and I'd be sold on it. I already have a phone that's better at being a phone, and I already have a real camera that takes real pictures. I don't need my PDA to pretend to be either.

I want my PDA to be a computer, not a "convergent device." I want it to have a crapload of processing power, a pile of storage space or slots to put it in, and a big screen with a lot of resolution so I can use both of the above effectively. WiFi sorts of wireless are a must; Phone sorts of wireless are pointless. My PDA will be my PDA, not the phone company's. If I want to go EDGE/GPRS/GRMS I'll get a card.

Even as is, my Axim is a "do all" gadget. It plays music and videos, surfs the web, hacks WiFi hotspots, processes data, does minor image manipulation, does GPS, and so forth. But I have no need or desire to have my PDA tied to a crappy cell phone or a crappy camera just to make it look more "convergent" and wind up the price another couple hundred bucks.

I agree with you guys on the convergent devices that is just a bunch of compromises. My first priority is the pda abillity then phone. I don't want something that has a smaller qvga screen, slow proccesor, and other reduced functions. I wanted a device that is equal or greater than my x51v and I found it and ordered one.

http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaFlam...ate/Product.vm

It is about the same size of my Axim and just look at the specs.

Andy

The flame is very nice just too pricey for me. I'd love the Sharp EM ONE but, again, just a dream unless I start knocking off banks. Congrats Kor on your new device.

I wish they never called them PDA's becuase people missunderstand the concept, it is a computer, its ont some little organizer thing, it can do nearly everything a normal computer can do. If dell advertised and sold it as a palmtop/handheld computer and changed public opinion into thinking of it as a computer they might still be making the axim.

Looks pretty big, what does it look like next to an Axim? Pics. anyone? Looks cool though. How much is it and what memory slots does it posess?
