Problem activating MS Reader on X51V

I'm having a problem activating MS Reader on an X51V.
I installed reader 2.4 with no problems.
Go to the activation web site and it downloads the secrep.cab file to the axim fine. Reader says that it is activated.
But the MS web site says to remain there until I receive a confirmation, and it never comes back with a confirmation.
I tried installing an ebook from Amazon, but it says there is a problem with the reader or activation.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling reader and the activation numerous times but always have the same problem.
I tried the same process on my laptop and the activation went fine.
I called MS and they said it was a known issue with Windows Mobile 5.0.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any known workarounds?

Thanks

John:

These are different symptoms than are found with the WM 5.0 issue that has been posted so much about of late. So we may be able to resolve this issue sooner. Are you using IE on this machine? Also do you know if you have your browser settings to disallow any downloads or activex controls to run? This might make a difference in whether you can complete activation. Give this a try.

Open IE
Go to Tools | Internet Options
Click on the security tab
Choose Medium settings and then click on reset
Close your browser and attempt to activate again.

If you are not using IE on your desktop or Laptop to activate please try using IE. If neither of these solutions are sucessful please post back here and I will do my best to help you resolve your issue.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

When I tried to reactivate MS E-book Reader after updating my X50v with WM5 - I got an error message from the MS activation site informing me that my device did not meet the "Windows Mobile 2002" or later requirement. MS customer service referred me back to Dell.

At this point - I'm just looking for another product with a little more user friendliness behind it.

Chesterton:

The X50V with WM 5.0 should work just fine. You do need to have either the Reader installed to the default location or have the hidden file udhid.dll in the \windows directory of your device in order to eliminate this message.

If this does not resolve your situation please feel free to post back here for additional assistance.

Thank you for the kind reply. I did just that based on what I read in the other posts on the subject. The program activated just fine after that. I then moved it to the CF card manually and reset the shortcut.

In hindsight, if MS Reader, as installed, won't activate in the
CF Card, then the MS installer routine should not offer the option to install there. Finally, the feedback I got from the MS support site was worse than useless.

Thanks again.
