the problem with ubook is it only reads shows text for chm, the images are not there. If it were showing the images it would have been almost perfect for me.

uBook fan
I use uBook constantly. I read a lot and find that there are so many options for reading eBooks on uBook that I can't keep up. It is very easy on the eyes in VGA especially for an old guy like me (just turned 60). It cost $12 but it is worth it.

I couldn't agree more. I downloaded Ubook in thinking that haali reader only supports txt files (and not any others). Ubook is slightly slower than Haali reader, and I haven't been able to open a particular .pdb book despite it. Then I revert to Haali reader and surprise, surprise, Haali reader is able to open it, in fact any pdb files. Haarli reader has simple structure hence faster to run, and clearer than ubook (plus it is free).
However, I've been unable to open pdf files using haali reader. Why everyone seems to be saying acrobat reader being a good ebook program is a wonder to me. How does one make it in one page yet keeping readable font? I find reading in acrobat ppc a bit bizarre... :rolling:

Just downloaded the ereader zip file and when I run the set up program I get a message
"The set up requires .NET Framework version 2.0.5.0727.........."
It offers a link at a Microsoft page but I haven't a clue what it means or what to download
Can anyone one help? What's it all mean

Eeek! What version of eReader is that? My version of eReader is old (2.6.1) but fortunately it does not require .NET CF 2.0. Users who installed it on their x50s report that it takes away 3MB of RAM.
This is a related thread with links.

So true. I believe many people use and like Acrobat because it is free, so they never explore superior alternatives. Like RepliGo.

nope.. I use Acrobat simply because it opens acrobat files.
For Novels or purely text based information then i'd go with one of the others, ubook, ereader, mobipocket etc...
BUT
when it comes to reference books, manuals etc that are stuffed full of images then Adobe in VGA comes into it's own. And with the increasing amount of files that are sent to me as pdf Repligo isn't really a practical solution becuase i'd have to convert files into it's own format, instead of being able to grav what i want and go.
but i still can't understand why people buy pdf fiction????

.NET is Microsoft's runtime environment. It is a framework of libraries and services, and easy to program, too. So more and more software is being developed within this framework. The downside is that it adds bloat.

I have bought PDF books now and then if PDF was the only format available, and I really wanted that book, and the DRM allowed it to be printed. Because then I just printed to RepliGo and got an eBook that is easily readable on a PDA and PC. As for PDF books which can not be printed, no thanks.
Being able to read native PDF that can be re-flown is an asset, no doubt. However I rarely get PDFs on a stick. Most of the time I am given Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

Thanks, I've found a 2.6.1 version and installed that now. Just one thing X5 does seem a bit unstable now, but it works

If your device really is more unstable now the cause is most likely something else. eReader does not change the way the OS works. Did you experiment with other software recently?
