I've been away from the PPC scene for quite some time now and it appears that years later my only option for reading .LIT files is MS Reader...is this awfull news true? I HATE MS Reader...surely another reader can do .LIT files no?
Convertlit + zip + µbook, you'll never look back...
Ommadawn: I have downloaded ubook, now I am wondering where to purchase ebooks in this format? I have an account at Fictionwise, which I used for an old Palm at one point, but they do not list ubook format.<br>
Also, your post that lists "Convertlit + zip + µbook, you'll never look back..." Do you mean that I need to use these other 2 programs with ubook for it to work? Sorry for all the questions- I just got my new x50 and want to download books onto it. Thanks for the helpful posts-chillykim
Up until now I have been using MS reader which, despite the comments here, I have found very good. Beautiful clear font. Simple to use. I have just tried uBook so that I can read books from the Gutenberg project and the font is fuzzy on my x50v. It also seems to be much more difficult to use.
Is there some setting I am missing for VGA?
I would really like a reader for pdf. Have looked at Repligo but it is pretty expensive just to use as an ebook reader.
uBook has a very unfriendly preferences system, but I assure you, you can tune the font to look very nice. There are several antialiasing methods to choose from, and if you don't pick the right one it looks terrible.
In the question mark menu, Options, Font section... There is a setting for Smooth or Sharp fonts. Choose Smooth. For the Method, choose RGB-X. Change the RGB Orientation until you find the one that works for you. (it's Left on my x50v). My RGB Distribution is 3, 2, 1--I think that is the default.
Then choose a Contrast, Font, and Size that you like. I am using Low, Arial, Large (20 point), with Bolding set to 1.
My other settings: Indent 24 px (or 1/21), Interline 2 px (or 1/5), WIndows menus, skin: none (I hate all of them), Justify Centered Paragraphs and Left Align Justified Paragraphs.

Consider Adobe PPC Version, it is THE .pdf program and it works like a champ for me.

Good luck!
Thanks for that. It does look better - I hadn't tried RGB-X. It still isn't as clear as MS Reader - as though it hasn't really been set up for VGA. I might play around a bit with the RGB settigns when I have time.
ps I think you probably meant 12px for the indent which is 1/21 (24 wastes a lot of page.)

I now have Adobe Reader on my PDA but the file I downloaded from gutenberg in pdf format is too wide for the Axim screen. It isn't practical to scroll each line. It just occurred to me that perhaps I need to read it in Landscape?

while document is opened in Adobe,
choose Reflow mode, by holding your stylis down on screen and then choose reflow in the window that pops up.

I'm not sure what is going on with my version of Adobe, but when I hold the stylus down I just get a list of letters from (A) to (M). I"ve played around with them. They do different things , eg (C), I think, causes it to scroll, but I can't find anything which fits it to a PDA page.
