That is very strange, are you using the latest PPC version of Adobe?I don't get letters but full words like Reflow etc.

Adobe Reader

I have sorted it out.

I reinstalled Adobe Reader and notice the reference to the desktop help file. On reading that I discovered I should have used the Activesync Explorer to transfer the book files. ( I must have used the Desktop explorer last time.) When I used Activesync explorer it "Tagged" the files and it all worked fine.

However I discovered there weren't as many books as I thought in Adobe format on Gutenberg. Gutenberg has them mainly in Plucker and text. Fortunately http://manybooks.net/ has converted lots of the Gutenberg books to PDF and eReader.

Thanks for the help.:approve:

If you don't wish to use a converter, Tiny eBook reader supports non DRMd lit files. It is not as good on the eye as uBook but it is way better than the MS Reader.

i read ebooks mostly in iSilo. i also love reading them on MS Reader because of the way texts are presented. it really depends on what i'm reading though :)

You mean besides the fact that uBookLite is not available yet?

The major difference is that uBook runs on PocketPC devices and uBookLite runs on Palm OS.

Also, uBookLite does not read files inside of zipped archives or RTF files, where uBook does.

But, the developer promises "µBookLite will be improved on a regular basis."

Last I remember, .LIT files were able to convert using Word and a plug-in....BUT not after WM2002 versions :(

I'll stick with Adobe.

ALternative PDF reader

www.foxitsoftware.com has a ppc PDF reader that does not require converting pdfs to some other format. I put the installer cab and a pdf file on a SD card, ran the cab and was able to read the PDF file just fine.

It's in Beta right now, but worked on the one file I tired.

They also have other PDF software including a very fast PDF reader for XP

Does anyone use a dictionary with Ubook besides the basic one that it comes with? Id like a good dictionary that I can use with ubook as well as on its own. Does anyone have any suggestions??

I wonder if anyone has an alternative to adobe reader. it's really difficult to read some documents when I need to move and drag the screen around if the text wrap around is not allowed.

I've several (medicine) ebooks in iSilo format, it's the best thing I've used.
Also (as mentioned above) iSilo and iSiloX makes things easier.

A am a long time eReader user and I am tempted to expand to using the MS Reader since I've found a few eBook titles in that format but not eReader.

What are some pros and cons in using MS Reader? By the look of it...a lot of people don't really care for it?

Thanks for all the adice!

There's nothing really wrong with MS Reader, it's just that there are better readers out there. I used to use MS Reader exclusively, until I discovered Mobipocket. Since I already have a large library in .lit format I still use MS Reader, but whenever possible I buy my new titles in Mobipocket format. There isn't a lot of flexibility in MS Reader (can only read .lit files, limited formatting options, doesn't allow folders/categories, etc.), which I think is why a lot of people don't like it. In a perfect world we'd only need one e-book reader, unfortunately it's not a perfect world.
