Best eBook Reader Program

I am trying to decide to use an ebook reader program on my Dell Axim X50v (Win Mobile 2003 SE). I have searched on the net. There are some programs such as Pocket Sword, MSReader, Team One's Reader and eReader Pro.

Which is the best recommended ebook reader program for Dell Axim X50v and why? I would prefer the e book reader program to support turkish letter characters, VGA and Landscape mode.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I find the best selections of books I like to read are at www.EReader.com and they have a free reader as well as an enhanced version that they charge a few bucks for.

I use both MS Reader and eReader (formerly Palm Reader) on my PDA.

MS Reader is okay (but it will remind you it is not 'Activated' - a type of DRM really - on the opening splash page until you sync it with Passport online), while eReader (even in the free version) has the added advantage of reopening an ebook at the last bookmark at startup.

Sites like Memoware offer tons of free books, especially of the eReader/Palm Reader variety.

I suppose you could also use Adobe Reader on the PPC as a reader of the ebooks available for that format as well...

Let's not forget iSilo. Sites like Memoware have lots of books in this format. iSilo also supports Palm PDB format. With the free desktop converter iSiloX HTML documents and web pages can be converted into eBooks, e.g. online books from the Baen Free Library.

You might also want to try µbook. It looks absolutely beautiful in VGA, has many different skins so you can pick the look you like. The user interface takes a little getting used to at first, but it reads many formats (including mobipocket, ereader and pdf with no DRM) as well as text, html and rtf.

I read a _lot_ of ebooks, and µbook is my personal favourite.

I really like mobipocket. I have ereader and msreader and isilo and ubook. I like mobipocket better because it has autoscroll, good interface, version 5 has a good computer interface that works with blogs or other print content.

On the negative side ereader doesn't allow me to speed the autoscroll up and down with the buttons. Isilo doesn't have auto scroll at all and MSreader has drm that locked me out of a couple of books after I had problems with my axim and went through about six in a year.

Question EBook Reader - WM5 Support

Do any of the suggestions listed above work with Windows Mobile 5? I have quite a few books in Palm format that I would like to keep. I was using eReader but in another thread it states that it will not run under WM5.

They will all work eventually. It is just a matter of time. Mobipocket is supposed to work with wm5 but I have heard that some are having problems.

Regarding iSilo's auto-scrolling, your must be referring to a very old version. I have one hard button set up to toggle auto-scrolling on/off. When on, the D-Pad up/down buttons accelerate or slow down the auto-scrolling. My version is 4.26 but the auto-scroll feature exists since early 4.0 revisions at least. The lastest version is 4.29.

My second choice is eReader if I cannot get the book in iSilo format - the few DRM'ed books I bought so far were either PDFs or in eReader format.

I cannot even activate MSReader, not that I have any desire to do so. The things wastes so much screen estate for page margins, and lacks most of the functionality offered by the other readers, it would be ridiculous if it wasn't so sad...

uBook looks really interesting! I would have tried it long ago but the web site does not have a privacy policy.

I have also been glancing at Mobipocket now and then over the years, but not recently. Quite a few commercial books appear to be available in this format. Apart of that (and minus the auto-scroll feature :)) which other benefits does it have over iSilo and eReader? For instance, you mentioned "other print content".

The iSilo revision history at http://www.isilo.com/info/revhist.htm lists fixes for the x51v - this means iSilo runs under WM5.

I've been using uBook, myself. I use c-lit to convert my books because I hate MS Reader. Works great!

I just signed up for a uBook license and they have a disclaimer saying they are not developing for Palm products. I would assume the program won't read Palm files.
