If No one has mentioned it, Mobibook 5 has been released

It is wonderful. A big step up from 4.9.

No worries... It's so much quicker than v4.x and looks great on a vga device :approve:

Let's find some more people to tell :approve:

Just curious.. how does it compare to Repligo... I have been using Repligo for some time now and find the resulting files just amazing. Repligo viewer offers tons of options on the PPC and makes for enjoyable file reading. The only problem is it takes a long time to convert .DOC or HTML files.. and it tends to stop working on .DOC files larger than 120 pages.. That requires breaking large ebooks in .DOC format (I have a 300 page Martin book) into 5 .rgo files.. not a problem.. but even then each can take up to 20 minutes to convert.

I have to admit, I'd been hesitant to try Mobipocket (or any other e-book reader for that matter) because I felt tied to MS Reader because of my large library and unwillingness to have two e-book readers on my PDA.

What a mistake that was! I just tried Mobipocket and it ROCKS! What an awesome little reader. I love that you can manage your e-books on your PC and don't have to manually upload them to your PDA. Microsoft should have had this feature years ago.

I can't get rid of MS Reader, I have too many e-books in the LIT format. But Mobipocket is my new e-book reader of choice and all future purchases are going to be in that format whenver possible. If you haven't tried this program yet you are missing out. :approve:

Has anyone (other than I) had any problems getting Mobipocket 5 to automatically save when the program is exited? I can't even get it to save bookmarks!

I'm using an X50V with WM2005 and saving everything on a 512MB SD card that has about 300MB free on it.

I lose my place occationally. But I think most of the time it is because the Axim is crashing (has crashed) or I did a soft reset without closing the program.

I wish it were that simple. But if I turn off my Axim, the thing starts back at the beginning of the book! And even bookmars are lost!

I had a problem for a while, but I reinstalled and it worked fine. Also you might try installing it on the Axim and not a card. I have my on my axim right now and it works great.

Having satisfactorily used MS Reader and uBook over the last year on my X50v, here are my first impressions of MobiPocket 5.0:

* It installed itself to main memory without offering the option of using a storage card

* It installed a shortcut in the Start menu without asking me, again, very rude for a new app

* Poor marks for folder navigation, the "Library" screen doesn't seem to be able to see subfolders in main memory or in storage cards.

* The "Browse" function in th pull down menu isn't that intuitive to use, nor is the "Go to page" slide bar, but I guess that just another way of saying they do it differently than MS Reader or uBook

* Getting out of Full Screen mode required reading the manual... another sign of a less than intuitive interface, but it turns out MobiPocket relies on the D button as much if not more than the touch screen.

I'll do the 14 day trial and see if it's worth keeping. I've gotten used to the more customizable, user friendly and intuitive uBook interface.

YMMV
