Reading Text books.

I am trying to read books on my axim. I have a few books in Text Document format (.txt). Is there anyway to go to a page number or mark your place? I have no idea how to do this with .txt format. Acrobat has built in function for going to a page, so losing my place is never an issue, but .txt is a different story. I also have the book in pdf format, but acrobat reader keeps running words together when it converts it for wrap around. Is there a solution to this problem also?

Use this add-in in Word to convert the .txt files to Microsoft Reader files.
Free and easy.

Other option

I recommend ubook http://www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_main.html I bought this because you can view files inside a zip without unzipping and I have a lot of html documents that I wanted to carry arround with me.

second the GowerPoint recommendation

I've been using the uBook software from gowerpoint for quite a while now, I really like it. It's sad that none of the "for-pay" ebook apps spend any time on features. I can barely stand to use ms reader or Mobi. Neither has a tenth of the features of gowerpoint.

And there's so much free text out there, I rarely read a paper book any more. A few visits to www.blackmask.com

Its not free anymore - its a demo and requires licensing.

I have been using Mobipocket for a while, and I loved it. However, the new version 5 seems really slow and crappy (it doesn't seem to remember my last read pages anymore!), but that might be just because of WM5, I upgrade them both at the same time.

Note: the last free version of uBook is still available here. It's version 0.8o and it reads straight text files just fine. In fact, some straight text files use underscores and asterisks to indicate text that should be italicized or bold and uBook recognizes these marks and renders the italics or bold text as required.

I'm been using Mobi 5 for quite sometime now and it's nice and fast for me. I'm still using 2003SE though and it remembers my last read pages fine. Another reason for me to wait on my WM5 upgrade.
