It will only read .lit books. To install it, just download it from MS web site, run the installer, they prepare for activation hell.

Then once you get it activated, you can cook eggs on the back of your Axim 'cuz it pegs the CPU.

Reader is very frugal on CPU on my X50v. Don't bother activating it unless you have DRM'd ebooks.

Thanks for your help. Can you recommend a better way to read e-books? Thanks.

It mostly depends on the file format of the books you already have. If they are .lit books, MSReader is the only game in town, unless you want to convert them with one of the geeky freeware .lit converters out there. There is a freeware reader called uBook http://www.gowerpoint.com/

that I haven't tried, but a lot of people on these forums seem to like a lot and it seems to support a large number of ebook formats, but not .lit. There is also ereader, which has a freeware version and a more feature rich pro version. This is the way to go if you come from the Palm community with a collection of books for that platform. Ereader is available for both PPC and Palm.

The selection is mostly going to be a personal preference deal. I personally don't read many ebooks because I'm too old to break the paper book habit.

I've had no problems. With Reader running my CPU was showing 208 MHz (on an X50v). Perhaps your settings are causing a problem?

What settings?
After a full backup,

1. hard reset
2. install MS Reader
3. use

I restored the backup, found readers that work without locking up or overheating my device, and never looked back.
