Microsoft Reader activation limit reached
Over the past couple of years I've used Microsoft reader on 3 PDAs and 2 computers, 2 of which I've reformatted and reinstalled Windows on. So now I've used up my 6 activations, along with the 1 extra activation they grant you with every 6 months. I just reinstalled Windows again and can't activate Reader. Is there any way to get around this? I'm no longer going to buy my ebooks in Microsoft Reader format because of this ridiculous limitation, but I have a lot invested in my present ebook library. I tried Convert LIT, but you have to have a valid Reader activation on your computer to start off with, (which I don't have because I've reached my limit!)

I've gone ahead and back up my PDA's activation according to the sticky in this forum, but I'm still afraid to try too much with my PDA in case I have to do a hard reset and the backup didn't work.

Seajohn:
If you reinstalled Windows on the same PC it shouldn't be using up one of your quota. If this is indeed the fact you can request an extra quota with the explanation that you wrote in this post and you will likely be granted another activation. You might received a "extra quota failed" message. This is a known glitch that will soon be repaired. Just click the link at the bottom of the failure message that allows you to try again and this will make sure that we receive the message.

If you continue to have issues with this please feel free to contact me offline and I will do my best to help you resolve the issue.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Sounds like time to strap on your knee pads and elbow pads and crawl to His Holiness Mr. Gates for just one more activation. Alternately, you could set up another account and flush what ever investment you have in protected .lit books.

An example of why I will NEVER purchase a .lit book.
