Help With Microsoft Reader

I think I'm just screwed but I thought I'd ask. I bought a ton of Books for Microsoft Reader under an Old Email adress. So naturally activating the Reader with my New Adress does'nt allow the Books to work. And also of course I can't activate the reader on my new device with the old Email because my Passport account is now under my new email adress.. I can't redownload my book from imonsays.com becasue they changed passwords and the only way to retrieve my PW on that old email account is have them send it to that account and that account no longer exists. Whew I can see why people hate DRM. I think I'm going to start using Mobi Reader but I would still like access to my old Books, any ideas ?

It is possible to save the activation files (just Google there are several good guides) there is also a program, CLit, that may allow you to extract text version of .lit files you have and then use the Word plugin for creating Ebooks and you can make versions you could read with your new activation.

I have to stress that using CLit is not exactly seen by everyone as being legitimate so its at your own risk/judgement etc but you own the files so I don't see why should have to buy them twice. Its this kind of DRM nonsense that leads to court cases and makes ordinary .pdf look good

I'm familiar with CLit but I'm looking for another workaround if Possible, the saving of the activation files is good to know for the next time but won't help me in this situation.

Scarpad:

Let me ask you this. When you say that your passport is now under your new account do you mean that you reassigned your new email to your old passport or did you create a new one? If you reassigned your old passport to your new address then you should be able to activate with the reassigned passport and still retain access to your books.

It sounds as if you created a new account. Did you have an alternate address assigned to your old account that still exists? If so they could send the reset information there. If not you can try submitting a request to passport support to get a reset sent to your new email. Explain that you would like to reassign your new email as your primary address to your old passport but don't have the old password.

The key to assuring access is by retaining your same unique Passport ID (your ID can be viewed at http://www.passport.com , signing in with your account and choosing Credentials | View your unique ID. If you create a new passport account this will create a new ID that will not match your existing titles.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions and I will do my best to assist.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team
