I really hate to say this but MS Reader for the Pocket PC is truly a piece of garbage. It's one of the WORST readers out there and MS hasn't updated this thing in years.

Let me rephrase what I just said: ANY reader out there is better than MS Reader. You are much better off converting your content (yes all of it) to another format and run for your life away from MS Reader. You are better off hand-copying your content to rice paper than using this pile of junk.
:realmad:

I personally recommend MobiPocket as a MUCH better alternative.

Hehe, you are so completely right. M$ Reader barely supports VGA devices (the font sizes are at least twice as large as they need to be), it barely supports memory cards and it is a bit unreasonable in how it deals with the delay that they have reinitializing after a standby. In general there are a heck of a lot more usable readers out there. I used to use Mobipocket, but it had some quirks. Haalireader is perfect for me, incredibly lightweight and no extra baggage.

You can convert books from .lit and that is exactly what I do, I use Haalireader (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/pocketpc/) which is a nice lightweight reader that just does text, and then use ABC Amber LIT Converter (http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html) to convert all my .lit files to .fb2 for Haali. Amber can also convert to other formats but I tend not to use them. As far as I know it will only work for unencrypted books or ones you have a licence for, but I'm not too sure on that last point...

Hey Mokubai

I did have it on the SD card, I now have it on the main memory with all 19.5 MB of ebooks and haven't have any problems thanks for the tip..

Cheers

Just to thank you all on this particular thread!

I'm not real sure where this post will end up, but I am replying to the first post on page 1... it helped me find the older version of MSreader 2.4 build 5070

I was beginning to think it didn't exist anymore! Needed the latest version that worked with pocket pc 2002 due to some major problems with not being able to read some ebooks I paid for a while back.

Got a another Dell Axim but it was identical to the old one I had. Yet, I must have updated MSreader before I bought the ebooks. They wouldn't work on the new one but worked just fine on the old one. Spent two days worth of brain-twisting trying to figure out why.

I did all sort of wild things like copy files out of windows and paste them in the new PDA. Activated and re-activated and booted and rebooted. I was having one of those "computer moments" for sure!!!

Unfortunately, the moments were adding up to hours and days.

Until I got the idea that maybe my version was the problem. Sure enough I looked in my old PDA and compared the version of MSreader with my new one. Not the same. BINGO, or at least a possibility I haven't tried.

Went to a microsoft site I got from this forum:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

That was it. Once I installed the newer version and re-activated it. My ebooks would open. Thank ya thank ya thank ya.

Peace has been restored.

Along with my ebooks.

Where is the OPEN button? I can't find a way to get around this stupid program!

Hi!

Recently, my Axim X51V has started acting strangely. I don’t use it for a whole lot… calendar, I play Bejeweled 2, and I read loads of books with MS Reader.

Things have been going great until, one day, Bejeweled wouldn’t load. I thought.. no problem, when I have some extra time I’ll just reinstall it as something might have gotten munged…

Now, as of tonight, MS Reader isn’t opening new books. I either get a message that there is an error and a picture is missing… or I get another error that says: “The Microsoft Reader was unable to open the annotation storage for this title. Running setup again may correct this problem.” I clicked to start the exe file and it warned that, if a version of reader was already on the PPC, it should be uninstalled before installing …….. aaarrrggghhhhhh. I don’t want to loose the order the books are in Reader and I remember somewhere else reading that I need to save the litpath.lpt file. I don’t know if that will help or not!

Even my Activesync is connected but not syncing. The cable is connected and secure and the notebook computer has freshly been rebooted.

Notebook computer is running XP Pro and have Windows Mobile 2005 on the Axim.

I’m just a bit frustrated as I want to read my books! Any ideas or suggestions?

Jan
