Bible Study Plans

I currently have the NIV from Zondervan for MS Reader. I've always heard it is difficule to just read the bible from front to back. I have been looking for PPC software to help develop a study plan and keep me on track with my reading.

I've seen numerous threads for Olive Tree, Lardian, and e-Sword. I understand these applications and their bibles make it easier to study than using MS Reader. Should I abandoned my NIV ebook and pursue one of the three bible readers?

I've searched the web for a "stand-alone" bible study application, but my search has come up short. My pastor has recommend some books, but they were not available online.

What does everyone think of the additional resources with the bible readers that help the user study? Do they have tools to keep you on track? I've visited the websites and it has been difficult to evaluate the study resources.

Thanks...

I do not know if this what you are looking for but I use pocketbible and dailyreader from Laridian they have just about any study guide and daily reading that I can think of waiting.

Laridian

Laridian has a plan to read the Bible in one year (and other options I believe). It has been a few years since I used the actual plan, but I believe it picks up wherever you left off, as I seem to remember starting and stopping many times, but it seemed that it guided me back to where I left off each time.

I use their Bible software as my primary Bible, I couldn't tell you right now where my hardcopy Bibles are. As an adition, their strong's concordance with Greek- Hebrew dictionaries is great.

I've been using e-sword and find it stable and reliable. I have not extensively used the study tools but it seems to me that they are of good quality and would help you in your study. Moreover, you have many versions available which is useful if you want to have the same version as your pastor or co-students.
With time, as you get used to the tools, they will be easier to adapt to your specific needs.

You guys are up too early!

You're not making the choice easy... As a reviewed past threads, the recommendations seemed pretty even between PocketBible and e-Sword.

I guess it's time to flip a coin.

Thanks for the quick insights everyone...

e-sword has a bible reading option that allows you so say what you want to read and how long you want to take to read it and divides it up into daily reading that you check off. I haven't every used laridian, but I know that Olivetree doesn't have that option. But olive tree does have a daily reading guide.

I have both Laridian and Pocket E-sword. The Laridian Daily Reader comes with some free reading plans and there are other one's that you can purchase. Its simplicity itself -- you tap on the reading for the day, and you jump right to it. It keeps tabs on what you've completed, etc.

I only use Pocket E-sword for the Greek language tools it has really, I can't comment on any reading plans -- but it is free, and based on that alone, it might be the place to start. Try it, and if it doesn't meet your needs, then look at purchasing Laridian or Olive Tree. With Laridian, you have to purchase Pocket Bible for the daily reader to work.

Like so many apps, the Bible app you end up using is largely a matter of personal preference. All of the ones in this thread (and others) are good. If you don't mind installing and uninstalling try each of them out. My personal preference is Olivetree. If you check the link below you will see that they offer several types of Bible reading plans. The reader is free along with numerous pub domain translations and other books. "Seek and you will find."
