are there any good ebook readers?

They all seem to only support 1 or 2 formats. The majority of mybooks are pdf but acrobat doesn't work as well as I'd like it to. Also all of the readers cost money and then you have to buy the ebooks. Sorry, if I'm going to spend money on a book, I'm going to buy the real thing for several dollars cheaper from amazon or the local used book store and then scan it my self. And you know that I'm not going to try and make .lit texts. The're going to be pdf. But occasionally I run itno ebooks in other formats and I would like to read them with out going through the hassle of converting them to pdf and then fighting with acrobat to load it and read it.
So if any one knows of a good, free ebook reader that reads multiple file types and does it well, please please let me and the rest of the community know.

Thank you in advance to any one who even considers this.

I don't think there is any good, free ones that read multiple formats.

Mobipocket is free, and it reads several formats (Mobipocket, Palm, TXT, and HTML). It will even convert PDF and Word files.

Why? The pdf format is designed for accurate printing. That is pretty much the only good thing about it. Its not designed for on-screen viewing.

It's not out yet, but there is a promising free ebook reader on the horizon. dotReader from OSoft. It is being based on the OpenReader Consortium's open-source XML format, and is going to be capable of working in a variety of formats and includes the capability to add more through plugins. Currently, they are planning to release software in August. No idea yet how soon a WM version will become available, but they are actively developing for PDAs as well as other platforms.

I second MobiPocket - with a caveat. I use an older version (v4.8) because I I dislike the debris on the full-screen mode of the newer versions. Other than that though, it is very good because I can set the font, colours, and text justifidation to suit my liking.

As for free books, look here: http://www.worldebookfair.com/

I use eReader Pro. I used this when I had my Palm, and there's a PPC version so I'm still able to read all my older eBooks.

i convert my pdf's to Repligo....it does much better at flowing and allows notes addition, highlighting, etc and the file can be transferred and viewed on nearly any computer or device.
