Icon3 I want to put up a eBook site...

I am looking to put up a eBook website. Does anyone know how I should go about it. I have looked into purchasing off of sellers at ebay but I have had bad luck with purchasing scripts there before in the past. I found one site that offers a complete ebook site with ebooks at, www.undergroundebooks.com - Has anyone here purchased ebooks from that website? - If so, share the experience with me. Thank you!

Looks like a huge scam to me... or if not a scam then a very easy way to throw away your money.

Re: eBook Website

Well, I made the plunge and purchased the eBook website package from UndergroundeBooks.com. I am a skeptic, however, I am actually impressed with the contents of the package.

The package contained a ton of ebooks and the script seems fairly simple to set up.

I am still interested in other websites that sell ebooks. I heard that it is good to put up several mini sites. Does anyone know if that's true? - What about linking the sites together?

My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't waste my time. I think basically all that crap(and I mean crap, I wouldn't buy any of it) is available for free anyway.

www.fictionwise.com or www.baen.com. If you can't beat them, why bother?

If you are skeptical... then you're an idiot for giving them you're money.

One would almost think you're troll from the marketing department. If I want commercial ebooks then there aren't any real titiles there. And Memoware have a much better range of free books. The numbers they quote are laughable too.

I think you should set fire to your wallet... It's a quicker way to burn your money, and will cost you less as well.

Hilarious! I was thinking the same thing. He sounds like he works for the website and is trying to drum up some free advertising.

did anyone look at the site? Bizarre.
Obvious scam.
"buy the ebook from us then resell it on Ebay for profit because we are too lazy (smart enough to know you won't make your money back) to do it ourselves"

sad....

It seemed like the thing to do...

Listen. No i dont work for the website. I just wanted a ebook site. I had wrote undergroundebooks.com to see which books came with it. It included all the ebooks that was on the free-to-resell.com site. It seemed like a decent price. I mean. I thought of it this way. If each ebook sold for a buck each and it contained over 40 ebooks then it would be worth it to purchase the site. Had I known that the ebooks were free, I would have certainly looked into getting them free. I would have had to searched a long time though to find each and every ebook that it contained though which "still" leaves me feeling as if I done the right thing.

An Idea.
How about an E-book site that caters to new authors.
The new authors put up a "small" fee to get you to "publish" their book, and market it on your web site.
You get an up front fee + a small royalty from selling the E-book.
The author must take care of any other money, such as copyright...

This gives the author a chance to get their book out there without paying huge publishing fees and then trying to sell the book themselves. If they're good, then their name will become popular and they will sell even more books.

You can have featured titles, how many has been sold, new submissions, run specials...
You would probably have to keep the price of each book very low to generate an interest in new authors, but this would help your site in the long run, because most people don't like paying hardcover, and paperback prices for e-books.

You will have a lot of work and up front costs before you make any money. You'll have to advertise in the right places for authors to come to your site. Some sort of contract or agreement will have to be drawn up... you get the idea.

Another thought is the editing. You wouldn't want to put just anything up for sale, it would have to have been red lined and checked for content, sorted to the correct genre... I don't know if you would want to hire people to do this, or make the author pay for that too.

Anyway it's just an idea. Let me know what you think. Good and bad.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who know about baen. Fictionwise is like hitting yourself in the head compared to the ease of use of baen.
