I leave Sunday for a trip & need a study bible to take with me for a class. Rather than drag my Harper Collins. I would rather have free since I already own the book... Any suggestions?
try e-sword. You have a number of free bibles. there are others available but this one seems to me practical and complete.

I use olive tree and there are many free translations beside the ones that you can purchase. Once you start using it you will most likely decide to purchase one of the translations such as NIV, NASB, ESV.
Hummm I am using an NRSV Harper Collins study bible. I'm in an Intro to the Old Testament class & it would sure be helpful to have something very similar so I don't have to lug the actualy book. I am VERY confused by the differences. I just need something like that for my pda, and especially free. But even that is confusing. So you need a Bible reader? Which appears to be free... but the software I see costs money. Can someone steer me a bit more in the right direction?

Yeah, you're right. Using a PPC/Palm bible normally involves two stages, similar to a lot of ebooks, dictionaries and textbooks. First you need to choose a program to act as a "reader", and then you need to choose which bibles/translations, commentaries, bible dictionaries, study aids etc. There are some free readers out there, and quite a few free bibles and other books as well, but most of the more recent translations are copyrighted so you need to pay for them. I would also expect that most of the study bibles are not free.
Anyway, i use Laridian PocketBible with NIV and ESV. Both the reader and bibles cost money, but it's a great program, with lots of good featrues. Not sure if the Harper Collins is available for it. You could check at www.laridian.com I haven't used e-sword or olive tree so can't comment on them im afraid
Hope you find a suitable solution
Go to Olivetree website and read about what they have to offer. I believe once you install and use the ppc version you will decide to purchase additional translations. I have the ilumina mobile package which includes bible & commentaries, dictionaries, maps, videos.
Laridian does cost money, but out of all my PPC apps, it's one of the ones that I use the most. It's fast, full featured, easy to use, and looks good (and support WM5). I have 5 different translations (including NIV and The Message), as well as concordances, dictionaries, commentaries, etc. It's pretty sweet.
If you need NRSV, you have to go with Olivetree or Laridian. I used Olivetree then I moved exclusively to E-sword, but there has been more development work on Olivetree than E-sword and I have moved back. If you just go on price then go with Olivetree. The reader is free and the bible is $16. Laridian is $10 for the reader and $14.99 for the bible.
I have both Pocket eSword and the OliveTree one. eSword is slower than OliveTree is but the user-interface is much easier to use, IMHO. They're both good programs - but eSword just has the edge in that area. (No pun intended).
