need help w/ mobipocket and ereader

I have an X5 w/ WM2003. I downloaded and installed ereader and mobipocket. I did some searching and downloaded a few books to try out, one in prc format and several in pdb format.

Ereader couldn't find any of the books I sync'd to the Axim, and doesn't seem to have any facility for you to tell it what folders to look in.

Mobipocket's "open" function says it only looks for .prc, .html, and .txt files. It finds the one .prc file I loaded but won't read it, says it is corrupt. It finds the .pdb files I've loaded but says it cannot open them.

EREADER

There is a file in the zip of ereader that is called bookinstaller which you execute. Tell it where your book files are on your PC and it will install them in the correct directory on your PPC. At least that is the way it works for me with WM5.

I ran the bookinstaller program and installed a few additional books. I can browse to the folder where ereader is installed and see the books copied to there also, but ereader doesn't find them. When I installed ereader I let it install where it wanted to, so there shouldn't be anything funny there.

Last night I completely wiped the X5's memory and started over. I searched ereader.com to read everything I could on their install, then looked at the readme's in the downloaded zip file. Then I did the full install again per the readme's and so forth, and installed a few books again per the readme's. After all that, the program still doesn't show any books installed on the X5 and since that is the only program installed there is no possibility of any other conflict except possibly with WM2003 itself. There is no additional help on the ereader website nor any way to contact them for support.

Did you get ereader working? I just did this this last weekend. It was a nuisance. I think these following steps are what I did; the memory had been thankfully receding before reading your post. The download zipped file from ereader seems to be three programs' components jumbled into the one zipped file. Yes, the first times I installed ereader, it couldn't find the books.

Since I wasn't sure how many program versions existed, this is what I did:
1. Downloaded and unzipped the ereader files
2. moved the zipped files into a folder of my own, named ppc ereader files

\ppc ereader files
BookInstaller 92 kb application
eReader 1,335 kb windows installer package
Ereader.PocketPC 2003 and 2003SE 1,215 kb winzip file
eReader.PocketPC WM5 1,216 kb winzip file
readme 01 3 kb text document (1st
readme)
readme 02 3 kb text document (2nd
readme)
readme 03 4 kb text document (3rd
readme
setup 76 kb application
utildll.dll.ppc300.arm 6 kb arm file
utildll.dll.ppc300.mips 7 kb mips file
utildll.dll.ppc300.sh3 6 kb sh3 file

(I think this was all that was in the folder when I started-- right now, there are three additional files: reame 01 (1).arm, readme 01 (2).mips, and readme 01 (3).sh3)

By this time, I had identified that I had 2003SE on the axim. I made two subfolders:
Pocket PC 2000, 2002 file folder
Windows Mobile 2003, 2003SE, 2005 file folder

I unzipped eReader.PocketPC 2003 and 2003SE.zip into Windows Mobile 2003, 2003SE, 2005. I changed to that subfolder, and ran the eReader Windows Installer Package from there. That time, when it ended, I had on the axim:

\program files
Peanut Press file folder

eReader program was in the Peanut Press subfolder. The My Documents folder on the Axim had the subfolder Peanut Press. Then, on the PC, I clicked START > Programs > BookInstaller. When it asked, I installed an unsecured .pdb ebook on the main storage of the Axim. Book in bookshelf, book accessible. Then I installed a secured .pdb ebook on the main storage of the Axim. Book in bookshelf, book accessible once the DRM code was entered when asked for. All okay. Then I put in an old 64mg mmc card...

I THINK I had to use ActiveSync Explore option to remove the Peanut Press folder and its contents from the MY DOCUMENTS folder on the main storage of the axim, to create a MY DOCUMENTS folder on the storage card. Then I ran BookInstaller and told it to install the book on the storage card. That worked. I've been reading for two days. (being laid up and housebound does give one more reading time than usual)

It has been years since I installed ereader on my trusty Palm IIIxe, but it doesn't seem to have been such a PAIN to install there. Perhaps part of the problem was that these were the first things I ever tried to install on the Axim.

This finally worked. Yes, I've really liked the trial version of eReader pro that I've been using. It lets me put the fonts very large, and the type is very clear.

Haven't tried to install MobiPocket on the Axim yet.
