Microsoft's Give-away

Microsoft has been giving away ebooks all summer. Some of them are dogs, but a good chunk are best sellers and highly enjoyable reading. I carry about 20 books on my 5555. Can't imagine loading up my car with all these on trips. :) They load new books every week.

Ah yes. This raises my question. I have activated both my 2215 and notebook, but how does one get the ebook onto PPC?
Tried copying it across but PPC shows ebook in library but cannot open. Message is "Reader is no longer able to access the book".

Thanks.

I had the same "Reader is no longer able to access the book" error and found that I did not have the most current edition of MSReader. Downloaded current reader and reactivated and now I am reading !!!

BTW... the new books come out every Friday at noon, get them as if you delay they are not available after the week.

This is the last week of the giveaways. It was nice while it lasted.

I never got a one. Oh well, I have all the classics already. Hopefully, I didn't miss anything good...

I got "The Company", a fictionalised account of the history of the CIA. One of the best books I've read in a long time, and it's HUGE so is keeping me occupied. I'm going to be sad when I finish it.

I also got "Balance of Power", which I then saw in a bookshop for $30AUD. Haven't read it yet.

Another one I grabbed was "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. People thought I was a nut because I was staring at my hand and giggling in public.

I hope MS do this again, I've really enjoyed them.

I've been waiting to see if they offer it again but haven't seen anything yet. Too bad - it was a nice promotion. Not all of the books were dogs, either.

I never got a chance to get any free ebooks from Microsoft! Did I miss out on the promotion? Can they send me all the free ebooks now? I haven't really tried reading on my iPaq, but some free books might make me start. I wouldn't really want to use samples...

You won't be able to open the books. That's part of the DRM encrytion. You can open them only on the activated Reader under which they were downloaded.

There are some good free eBooks available on the net it just takes some searching. However if you want to shop around eBooks.com there are some great titles there. And iPaqHQ members get a discount for the purchase of ebooks there. Goto our Discounts Forum to get the discount code if you plan to get some ebooks that you won't find free.

By far one of the best free e-book sites online that I've found is Blackmask Online - they provide a gigantic catalogue of classic and public-domain works in every format imaginable...
