Activation Error

undefinedundefined

Just got my HP Ipaq 4700 and I cant activate MS Reader on it.

I keep getting an error that says I am using an older version of Pocket Pc Windows that does not support activation.

I have tried every suggestion on the net to no avail.

Help Please!

Thanks

Yes, thanks

I downloaded the latest microsoft reader for PPC from the microsoft site;
I deleted all cookies and temporary internet files;
I turned off windows firewall and McAfee privacy service;
I uninstalled the reader left on my Ipaq from the last try;
I go to http://das.microsoft.com/activate
I signed in and logged out of passport;
I sign into passport, go through the version check with no problem and press the "Activate my Pocket PC" box.

I get:"You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation. Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later."

Hope you see something I forgot.

John

I'm having the exact same problem-- stuck in Microsoft Reader hell.

First, I bought an encrypted eBook that required Reader. Hey, no problem: I downloaded and installed Reader on my XP box and 4700, then learned about activation.

Whoops! Can't activate with FireFox-- you have to use Explorer. But every time I tried to activate, I was told that activation failed, and that I should log in as Administrator or some other user with admin privileges.

Took me a while to figure out that Service Pack 2 for XP had kindly disabled most ActiveX control functions-- not even allowing the system to prompt you for them-- and that I had to disable these so that I could install the special ActiveX control needed to activate Reader.

Did that, activated Reader on my XP box, but when I clicked the button to activate it on the iPaq, I got the same message you did.

I tried reading the book on the iPaq anyway. Reader puts up a helpful prompt:

"The digital security software that protects this eBook has been updated. Yoiu must re-activate in order to open this title. Please go to www.microsoft.com/rea... for additional information."

I tried completing the URL, assuming that "rea..." would complete to "reader", but no dice, so I'm stuck.

I had this problem; I seem to remember solving it by doing something really simple like a soft-reboot (sorry, but anything that happened more than a week ago gets lost in the fog of time! )

Also, I found that MSreader didn't like to be installed anywhere except the default directory.

I'm also having the same problem - "You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation. Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later."

I only realised today that my 4700 didn't already have it pre-installed when I actually tried to read an ebook copied over from my lasy PPC.

I have downloaded the latest version of MS Reader (2.4) and have installed it into the File Store. I can get MS Reader to run OK but cannot read some of the ebooks I bought without doing the 'Activation'. Activation gives the same error as others have got.
I think Sugar Cube must be quite correct when he states MS Reader must be loaded into the default location. Will have to uninstall then load into the default location tomorrow. What a pain. Why do MS have to 'control' even where programs are loaded. :bang: :bang:

Well, Sugar Cube was quite correct. :approve:

I uninstalled MS Reader from my File Store, soft reset, then re-installed it to the default which I imagine means Main Memory. Did an 'Activation' and it worked!!

Can now read all the ebooks I copied over ready for my O/S trip next week.

activation fix

I was having the same trouble and it took phone calls to both HP and Microsoft to find the fix. There is a file missing from the HP files called oeminfo.xml, and to get it just go to HP.com and download it. Go to HP.com, on the left side find downloads and click on it. Then, in the middle of the screen put the model number of your Ipaq (ex hx2795) hit enter. On the next screen click on your model number and hit enter, then click on the operating system (mobile 5). On the next screen look at the bottom of the page for the fix for the problem. Download the fix, install on your pda and do a soft reset and enjoy your books.
