What do I need to get started on downloading ebooks? Do I need a program installed before downloading ebooks? Do I need stroage cards?

Tabby,
It really depends on the format of the ebook. Microsoft Reader is for .lit files. MobiPocket reads books in their format, TomeRaider in their format, etc. There are also .txt ebooks, .html formatted books, and others. eReader.com has their own format. The list goes on.

If you know of a book you want, Google it and add ebook to your search. Or search Amazon, ereader, etc.

If you're into the classics, you might check out the Project Gutenberg

Tabby, I use MS Reader, although as GeekGuy says there are plenty more out there. I store my ebooks on my SD Card, but they don't take up much room - so you don't need an SD Card specifically for them, just some storage space somewhere.

Here's a few links for free ebboks, to get you started:

http://www.abacci.com/msreader/default.aspx

http://www.memoware.com/

http://www.e-book.com.au/freebooks.htm

There are a lot of other sites out there, so just pick a reader, & search for the ebooks! (remember, though, that the different readers need ebooks in different formats, so you can't go loading anything other than .lit into MS Reader, for example)

I have several novels on my PPC; they're just the thing for vacations, as they save my dragging lots of paper around with me!

There are many sites for ebooks. Just look through the rest of this forum for links. Also, don't worry too much about the different formats. I have ebooks in TXT (the most universal), PDB/PRC (for Palm), LIT (MS Reader), PDF, HTM, CHM and others. There are many converters out there that will let you swap from one format to another, and with a Pocket PC, all you really need is MS Reader for LIT and uBook for PDB. With Reader Stuudio you can create LIT files from TXT, HTM, etc. I have over 8,000 ebooks in different formats and just convert them to whatever I'm reading them on. I generally carry at least three ebooks on my SD card (or in memory) to read throughout the day (standing in line, having lunch, etc).
