Free e-books
Another question that I was wondering about free e-books. Why are they all old classics like the invisible man, Moby Dick, etc. Makes me feel like I am back in school. I love dramas, like detective books and I know you have to pay for the current one like James Patterson, etc, but I was just wonder if any of the free one were like that , just to get started on. Is that kind of cheap of me to say that?

Old classics are out of copyright and therefore can be freely distributed. Not sure about what your tastes are, but www.memoware.com is a good starting place for free (and 100% legal) ebooks.

Also consider looking in newsgroups. There are several newsgroups out there where you can find almost anything. Remeber that it may be considered piracy to download a copyrighted e-book.

I had been wanting to download some newsletters too but I think you have to download them to Outlook Express first. For some reason we had a problem with our computer a few yrs back and ever since instead of using Outlook , we have a desktop icon to go to Charter (our service) to check our messages. We are afraid that if we actually try to Outlook Express on our Desktop that it will messup our email that we have saved by checking it the other way.
Any suggestions for that. Though it might be okay to ask this here since I posted it ( I know its not on the same subject.
Thanks
Charlene

Sugar_Cube:
Since WHEN is David Weber old and or obscure?! LOL .... He's definitely popular, especially with his Honor Harrington series. Which, I point out, is about 50% converted for FREE DOWNLOAD on the Baen Digital library site.
http://www.baen.com/library/defaultTitles.htm
Editorial note (by me):
If you buy some of their hard covers now (from Baen), look in the back for a CD rom. That ROM has all of the eBooks stored there also in HTML format. Nice touch and a wonderful value add from Baen.
Funny, but because they've been so good to me, I've been buying my last three series from them. My wife intro'd me to them, which was the humorous part. Now I've intro'd my wife to ebooks on her Zodiac, that I've converted off of their digital library page. She's enjoying the ability to take 50 books with her when she goes on Military duties (her Two week stints). She just complains that the Army doesn't give her enough AC juice. /lol/

Thanks for the advice. I'm not saying that the old books are bad or boring. I just love dramas.

Try BlackMask Online www.blackmask.com they are a great source for FREE books. A lot of old time books from the era of pulp fiction, such as Tom Swift, The Rover Boys, Doc Savage. There are thousands of books there, multiple formats (Adobe, Palm MS Reader, etc.), again all FREE!!
