can't see some .lits after upgrading to pocket pc 2003
Hello,

I have a dell Axim X5 upgraded to 2003. At present I am reading "Terminal Compromise", an amazing thriller with hackers, spies, terrorists and so on. This book and others can be obtained at:

http://esspc-ebooks.com/

My problems began when upgrading PPC 2002 to PPC 2003. Microsoft Reader does not display the text. It appears to open it correctly but text is non existent. You can move throw pages, find text and so on but nothing is displayed. MSReader from PPC2002 just worked fine.

It could be a matter of fonts, so I tried with a soft reset, but the same thing. I also tried to install MSReader 2.2.2 (last one) Spanish version, but it didn't work either. I also tried unlucklily with activation.

Has anybody had the same problem?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Ooopps! i just saw the warning on that page: they suggest not updating MSReader (too late ).

Does anybody know of a free tool to convert to another ebook format (such as pdf), and the software to view it on the axim?

Thanks.

I have the same problem but I have not be able to find a fix for it yet I also have some ebooks from this site.

They work fine on the latest verson of MSreader for PC but they will not work on the PPC version, I have even tried upgrading the MSreader that came with 2003 but still no luck.

that's the point
MS-Reader for PC just works fine, but not for PPC.

Upgrading PPC version is just useless, and takes out some memory too.

The upgrade to v2.2.2 was to take care of the invisible text issue. You need to install it to main memory and make sure that your old shortcuts point to the new version instead of the old.

Darn it ... I have this same problem ... I thought the place I downloaded the books from might have been the culprit... So I was reading on my laptop.
Thanks for straightening me out !!!!

Believe me, that's not the problem. I tried that too, and checked that the version I was using was 2.2.2 (PPC 2003 comes with 2003). The problem remains the same.

There is just one thing that might be the clue. After installing MS Reader 2.2.2 one msgbox pops up warning about a new installation of fonts and that the device should be reseted according to vendor.

How come do u reset the Axim to get those new fonts available? I tried soft (and even) hard reset. But the ebook displays the same.

I thing it is a matter of the format of those ebooks. Please, try one title from the computer category at http://esspc-ebooks.com/ and tell what u see.

Could it be a matter of international fonts or something like that?

I use Spanish version of both PPC2003 and MS Reader 2.2.2.

WARNING
"July 6, 2003
The newest version of Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC will not allow you to read any of my eBooks. I don't have a fix at the moment, but I can assure you that I am working on it. Until this issue is resolved I would strongly advise you not to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Reader."

Is the greating I received at that website.
I updated MSreader (I had 2.2.2) a few months back and seeing that it is dated July, I would suspect that no books on this website will work on my PPC. I'd guess it has something to due with secutiry.
