Worried Discounted ebooks?

I started looking around for ebooks. Most of the newer releases on places like Amazon and barnes & noble charge as much for the ebook as the hardback copy. I have a hard time paying this, since there is no printing cost or shipping costs for an ebook. Not to mention that with a hardback, you can at least get something for it at a used book store.

Are there any sites that sell them for less?

There is a site called Know-Better that is an e-book library. You pay $20 a year, and can "check" books out for up to 3 weeks. I am not sure if that is what you want, but it may be worth checking out.

www.ebooks.com is ok, if you can actually find a book you want after wading through their crappy interface.

Exclamation Look at...

Fictionwise.com it has a GREAT DEAL OF EBOOKS IN MOST FORMATS AND THEY DISCOUNT AND PUT THEM ON SALE WEEKLY.

I am into Science Fiction and they have many other types of books as well.

Most Star Trek books (if you are a member) and they are on Sale or SPECIAL can be purchased for aroung $2.50. They are then in your special area to download from any computer in case you need to when you are traveling. IT will only work on your computer though can't share!

amazon.com is cheaper--you're more likely to find a "discounted" book.

as for prices, there has been a lot of discussion on pricing before, but just because the supply of a book costs less (no shipping, etc.) that doesn't mean it will be cheaper.

The market price is whatever market demand will support--it has nothing do to (usually) with how much a good costs to the supplier.

And apparently the market supports regular book prices....

amzon.com really isn't that bad since they started disounting random ebooks (not much, but still helpful) last fall.

To be fair to Amazon, I recently bought the book "Middlesex" by Jefferey Eugenides and the e-book price was exactly the same as the discounted paperback price. I think that once the original book makes it out in paperback the e-book price will also be reduced.

Oh, and the price was lower than at PalmDigitialMedia as well.

Don't forget about Baen

If yoru into SF you cannot beat WWW. Baen.com for free e-books by major SF authors and their for pay side is also very reasonable. Most newer e-book are less than $5 and you can buy a monthly package for about $14 which is at least 4 sometimes 5 books. Multiple formats and you can download as many times as you need to.
