Favorite SF Author on E-book Format

Hey Guys it seems that we get off on tangents when we start talking about E-books and authors so I thought it would be interesting (at least to me) to start a thread about favorite Autors in E Format.

I have several but I guess John RIngo, Eric Flint, David Webber are my top favorites...

Thoughts?

Eric Flint first and foremost. I've read 1632 and Mother of Demons in ebook. I'm reading 1633 right now.

David Drake. I've read one or two of his things in DTF (dead tree format) and hated the, but I got An Oblique Approach for free from Baen and really liked it. Might help that it was co-written by Eric Flint though. So now I'm semi-hooked on their Belisarius series. It's a shame I can't get book 3 in DTF though.

John Ringo. Finished A Hymn Before Battle just today and I cannot wait to pick up the next one. I've still got his March Upcountry sitting on my e-shelf waiting for its turn. I'll probably get to that sometime in the next couple of weeks if work stays as slow as it is.

Robin Hobb. I've only read the DTFs of her stuff, but I know it's all released in ebook format too. Incredibly good stuff. You can't beat the Liveship Traders saga for good seagoing adventure, and it's impossible not to love Fitz and the Fool. And Nighteyes, can't forget Nighteyes.

I'm getting to the opinion that as long as the writing and the story are good it doesn't matter what format the tale comes in.

Hey, Wmrawls, I noticed that your picks are all Baen authors. I guess the free-ebooks-to-promote-the-catalog effort at Baen is working.

I would second all your picks and add one who is not from Baen: Glen Cook.

I enjoyed the Black Company series and the Garrett, P.I. series.

Wellllllllll

Its more happenstance than the free e-books situation. I was a fan of Ringo and Flint before finding the Free e-books on BaeN. And I also like Cook. I like the Garrett series more than the Black company.
Other authors I really like are Alan D. Foster, Farmer, Chalker, and a slew of others. Many of my all time favorites are dying off though so I have been really reading a lot of other authors trying to get a feel for thier work.
Oh I also like Bujold a lot.
But since this is a thread about E-books I tended to focus on the ones that I can readily find in this foramt.
I can caht for hours about my fafvorites.

Cool Stranger in a Strange Land

Do any of you know if Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land is in ebook format?

This is a great thread. I have read most of the authors you have mentioned and enjoy them very much.

Bean.com is a great sight and I have been intoduced to several of these authors by reading their free downloads. This has caused me to start buying those authors books. Great idea Bean.

Robert Heinlein's works

As far as I know there are only a couple of his works in E-format and they are are found at Fictionwise.
I have done repeated searchs but have not found any legal or for that matter illegal copies of his works. If any one does find a site offering his works (Legal) I sure would like to know about it. His work "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is my favorite followed closely by "Glory Road" and the Original version of "Starship Troopers". (As opposed to the Film version and the book released on the film).

Not an e-book

But I bought "Have Space Suit will Travel" from Audible and enjoyed it immensely. They had a few others... "Farnham's Freehold" come to mind.

Baen authors

To all you who are big fans of Baen authors, David Weber's "War of Honor" hardcover version came with a CD containing the entire Honor Harrington series as well as several other Baen books, in several formats. I had previous books in this series in paperback, and it was the CD that got me to buy the hardcover of this one.

Good Reads

Farnham's Freehold is certainly a good read. Been awhile since I took it off the shelf. Alfred Bester's stuff is good hardcore SF and I enjoy his stuff as well, the hard Science in his work is almost as informative as a Teaching aid.

I have read some of the Honor Harrington series but have not gotten into that series like I have with some of Webers other stuff. I do agree that putting the CD in several of thier hardbacks is smart marketing. I like having the ability to read on my AX but I still like having that book on the shelf. I have to travel to Europe a couple of times a year and the AX is a mind saver for me on the flights and the lonely nights watching German TV with reruns of Gilligans island and other oldies, I will admit the comercials are much more , erh entertaining over there,

Wmrawls, Rosetta Books has Heinlein's The Puppet Masters and Baen has several Heinlein's including Farnham's Freehold.

Could Not find

Hey Moe the Cat,
I have been a frequent user of BaeN so I was surprised that you indicated that there were several Heinlein's works there. I went back and searched the site and I can still only find the one which is "Expanded Universe". Is it possible that you meant another website? I looked up all works by Author on BaeN and am pretty sure I did not over look any other titles.

Let me know becasue I would love to get Farnhams on E format.

Hey I went to the link you provided, duhhhh should have doen that first, and that is his works in Paperback or hardback not E format. Thats what threw me.

Still searching for "E" format. I pretty much have all of his work in hardback.
Thanks.:rolling:

Boy, is my face red! :bang:

I didn't even notice. I just assumed everything at Baen was automatically available in ebook format.

Sorry!

Did you try here?

Hey Moe

For a cat your pretty smart. I followed the link and did find that all the works are in a text file so I copied and pasted to Word and will save and work on converting to lit files.
Good find.
Thanks:D
