I've got some .pdb books I downloaded for my palm but want to read them on my Axim. I've found a shareware pgm that converts them into .txt and.html and I then used readerworks to put them in .lit but the formatting is all off. Same when I converted them to .pdf.
Any suggestions-is there software out there I can use on my Axim to read pdb files?

I use PalmReader for Pocket PC's. I get all my books from palmdigitalmedia.com. When I download books, they have the pdb extention. The basic PalmReader is free. I hope this works for you.

uBook is also great for reading .PDB and .PRC palm files on your Pocket PC.

However, uBook and the slew of other readers out there that read PDB and PRC can only read the "old" type of PDB (text only) not the newer PDB specifically for Palm Reader (text + formatting instructions and navigation).

Sorry-that was a few nonths ago. I don't remember since I don't need to do it anymore, I deleted it.

Talyn, uBook version 0.9b is now out and it DOES support newer PDB files. From the Gowerpoint site:

1) PDB: Added handling of Palm format (eReader) and Mobipocket newer compression format.
- Does not handled encrypted files.
2) PML: Added parser, set as default for PDB files.
- Footnotes (Sidebars?) are dumped at the end of the text, without proper naming/linking.
- In PML \UXXXX \Xn \x \Cn are skipped or ignored
- No parser options yet...
3) RB: Added handling of Rocket eBook format
- Does not handled encrypted files.
- Handling is done through compressed folder, so the user has to select the proper HTML file from it.
4) CHM: Added file format handling.
- Memory hungry / slow on first open - fast afterwards.
5) PDF: Basic (Unencrypted) text extraction.
- Doesn't work on newer files.
- No font attributes.
- Formatting is not too good (what do you expect from a graphic/printing format)
- The result is similar to selecting all text in Acrobat Reader and copying it to a text file (i.e. if the page wasn't generated top-down, the text gets mixed-up...)

Note: ubook now supports PML, PDF, Rocket eBook and CHM formats (albeit rudimentary support in some cases, but it's a start).

Isilo for Pocket PC can read PDB and PRC files. It is an inexpensive shareware but, even in its free mode, it is loaded with features. One problem with the Pocket PC version of Isilo is that every time you start the program, it opens your book list rather than the previous book you were reading. You will then have to reopen the book. This isn't a big problem unless you have, like me, hundreds of e-books in your library.
