My suspicion had been that it was an issue relating to not having a current activation file set, and you've confirmed that nicely. Thanks for that. By the way, here's a cropped screenshot showing the files needed from Windows, in case that helps. I took this on September 21, 2003 and so far as I know nothing's changed in the naming:
I believe that if you make a backup of all your data (I just use Dell's Data Backup) the enumerated files above are among those that are included. Since I have started using such backup (dbk) to restore my Axim after every hard reset, I didn't have to do any more reactivation of MS Reader at all afterward.

The problem was I didn’t have the most recent version of MS Reader. I forgot that I updated several months ago, than I began purchasing e-books. Once I updated my books were readable.

My X3 came with MS Reader already installed in ROM. MS advised to uninstall the older version of MS Reader before updating. Since I can’t uninstall programs from ROM Memory I had to install it in my Main Memory as advised. Isn’t this a waste of memory?

Any comments would be appreciated.

You cannot uninstall the ROM version of course. I never saw this advice on Microsoft's, but having seen a number of people in various forums mention it, it would seem I overlooked it. Absurd. Installing the newer versions of Reader to an SD card or a file store is simply done using the CAB file and S_K's CabInstl program, or I suppose one could just let Activesync install it to a non-default location. The CAB file for Reader is about 2.5MB, which is a heck of a lot of memory to waste on a second-rate ebook program. µbook is a lot smaller, more versatile, and just more fun to use, and I have both that and Reader installed to a folder on my main SD card. You have to use a separate shortcut from the one in the \Windows folder...

The first time I installed the update to a device I didn't realise I could install to a card, and then I saw with horror just how many files got dumped into \Windows. I set about moving these manually to a card, and doing the matching registry edits to allow the newer reader to work. That was a lot of wasted time, as uninstalling and reinstalling with CabInstl to a specific location works fine.

I've never used anything but PIE to view threads on AximSite. Used IE6 once, to modify my profile. But PIE seems to load this and other threads fine. I like the new forum layout a lot!

It may be a hidden file. Turning on Show All Files in File Explorer would expose this file in \Windows if this were the case. Of course, if you've not gone through Reader Activation live on Microsoft's site on your PC, with the PPC connected under Activesync, you'll not have this nor the other files.

Open File Explorer. From any location, scroll down to the bottom of the list of folders and files so there is just a little white space showing below. Tap&hold in that space, and on the menu which pops up tap View All Files. That's all. It won't show file extensions, just the part before the dot.

I suspect it is the fault of your "mesage bible" being badly encoded rather than Reader's fault. Can you open the book on your PC? Perhaps you'd be better off dumping out the HTML code using Convert LIT and then using a proper reader like µbook to read it on the PC. µbook will navigate such files inside ZIP or RAR archives just as though they were uncompressed, and it's far tastier than MS Reader for reading in general.

Can't get Microsoft Reader to work at all!
I can't get Microsoft Reader to work on my X50v, always worked fine on the X5. I've re-installed several times and activated each time, but it always freezes up when I try to access a book or reader features.

I have several reader programs which I use for different things, but really like Microsoft Reader and have a lot of ebooks in that format.

Any input which might throw some light on this problem would be appreciated!

Ok I have the book on a sd card it works on my Axim x5 when I put the sd card in my wifes sd slot the book comes up in her reader but it wont open.
As for the HTML code stuff I have no idea what that is or how to do it or what Convert LIT is
