Free ebook from Amazon

This is the pdf version of the hardcopy book (US value $16.97) that is detailed here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...471305-2076041
Read the reviews and then if you want it click on the free download link for the ebook which they say is for a limited time.
Sometimes the link doesnt seem to work so you can search for it on Amazon. The name and author is "Free Culture: How Big Media Uses Technology and the Law to Lock Down Culture and Control Creativity"
by Lawrence Lessig

Warning-file is about 2.5 meg.

Thank you, hack! I love free ebooks.

I downloaded and converted the book to Repligo format. It is only 1.12MB in rgo. I try not to use PDF format in PPC whenever possible.

I wonder if Mircrosoft would do the same summer ebooks giveaway this year.

Your welcome. I downloaded repligo awhile ago but have never had occasion to use it. How do you convert from pdf?
TIA

You need to have purchased the full version...you can't use the free viewer....except to view files already converted

Sorry to inform you, but this is nothing new. In fact, you can get the book in multiple formats (including Microsoft Reader) at http://www.free-culture.cc/ . The MS Reader version is far smaller (around 668kb, last I checked.), and the book's definitely worth reading.

And, for the record, the .lit file is under the 'remixes' section.

Thanks for the update on repligo. Is it a good program? I really havent seen any docs that require it other than 1 that was posted here a few months ago so dont really know anything about it.
As far as the other info on where to get the book, that's great-I just saw it on Amazon when I was buying something else. You're right the file is much smaller. Maybe if you know of any other legally free current books like this you could post links here.
Thanks

I started on the book and it is worth reading.

To answer your question, hack, Repligo is capable of converting any document that could be printed. Any webpage, any gif, PDF, doc, xls, anything that could be printed. When you do File > Print, select Repligo instead of your regular printer, then Repligo would take it from there converting and compressing the document into rgo format. One of the smartest application for Pocket PC in my opinon.

And yes, you do need the full Repligo and not just the Viewer. You could download a trial from Handango and see if it fits your needs.

It is great that this particular ebook is also available in a smaller .lit format, but there are many other documents that are just plain huge and difficult to read in a Pocket PC. I convert most text-based documents into Repligo format now. The one-click landscaping mode is invaluable.

Cool

Just downloaded the lit version and saved me a whole meg :). It's great that the author allows the content to be "remixed" into many different formats. I like a guy who acts the way he preaches :D.
