I go with ESV for my primary reading. But all translations have weaknesses and holding to just one translation is never complete.

I use E-Sword and primarilly the ESV version which I think is very good. I have used the NIV version for over twenty years, and think the ESV is better! Of course, everyone has their own opinion, and you should check out each one for yourself.

Well my logical thinking is that Jesus Christ is the author as "All scripture is God breathed" 2Tim 3:16 so the NIV isn't copyrighted anymore as we're long past 90 years.

Not true. If you study manuscript evidence you will find that the *complete* Word of God is called the "Majority Text". There is only one contemporary translation of the MT in English: the KJV.

Practically all others are based on 2 manuscripts (Codex Sinaiaticus & Codex Vaticanus). The NIV is an *excellent* translation. Unfortunately it's an excellent translation of the wrong text.

Don't take my word for it, though. Investigate it for yourself. I used to read NIV, RSV, etc. When I discovered this issue it was like having a blindfold removed! Now I truly understand Final Authority.

I intend to start no debate here - only provoke study. The issue is too critical to ignore. Check out these references (for starters).

"Final Authority" - Dr. William P. Grady

"New Age Bible Versions" - G.A.Riplinger

Happy studying!
