Wmrawls, I found a site here that should interest you. It has a lot of recent SciFi and other types available. Most of the files are in Russian, but there are more than enough English translations to make a visit worthwhile. Also, the books are offered in html, txt, rtf, rocketbook, pdb, fb2, isilo3 and prc formats.

Moe thats another good find you have sent me. I have got a lot of mileage out of the other link, http://dwalin.ru/books/

Of course the bulk of the material there is in a lit format and I have to convert it using MS Word to a MS Reader e-book but well worth the effort.

I also learned reacently that al of the Doc Savage books are in the Public Domain. I loved reading his adventures as a kid and I have all of them on a SD now. You can find them pretty easy with a few searchs on Google. I am, when I have time, trying to get all of the old Shadow and Green Hornet stuff next.

Thanks for the link and keep them comming.

If you like Doc Savage and similar older literature, then Blackmask is an excellent place to check out. I have recently gotten interested in Sax Rohmer (Dr. Fu Manchu). There is also a lot of older pulp fiction. A good site for e-books.

Yes Blackmask is a pretty good resource. However there are other numerous sites out there as well that are avaialble. I have found that many sites out side the US have a much broader content and are freqently less busy for downloading. I am building quite a library of "Pulp" era reading.

Not that I'm one to turn up my nose at free books, but you guys do realize that a lot of the stuff on those Russian sites is still under copyright and basically illegal, right? I'm not saying I won't grab a few, but just in case you were wondering...

Oh yeah I have been around quite some time and I know all the arguments for and against the downloading of copyrighted books. I pretty much limit myself to thoses that I know are in the public domain. However, just for the sake of argument I take a stand that if I already own a hard copy then I think I am entitled to download a "e" version. Another point is the paper back and used book trade stores. Do they pay a royalty to the author or to their estate when they make a profit on the book? I think not. Another point is that many books have or had been in the public domain for years and then some profit motivated person (not that I am opposed to profit making) comes along renews the coopyright for a dime and starts making money off the work that he / she never had a hand in the making of.
I just love this argument lol........But to be honest I buy many more books in both formats (hard and soft) than I download on the sly......and just so no one gets their panties in a wad we are not having a discussion about hacking, cracking, warez or any other illegal stuff......just friendly discussion about right from wrong and alternate viewpoints.

wmrawls: I'm not arguing the case. My perspective is similar to yours. I'm addicted to reading on my Palm, especially SciFi and the main reason that I want to move to an Axim is for the increased screen real estate. I'm irked that so many authors and publishers refuse to release their books electronically. It's a new wave and an important one. But in the meantime, if I can't buy it, chances are I will get it another way if it's available at all...

I know...I was hopeing to get a good argument started with somone that disagreed. LOL.
If you like SF/F go to www.baen.com
Pleanty of free books there and I don't mean public domaine that are 40 years old. Also its my favorite site to buy e-books. One of their added benifits that I really like is that if you pick a Monthly download (if you go there you will see what I mean) you get an invitation to send the identical order to a friend and they get to download the same package in what ever format they want that is offered by Baen. A truly enlightend site and one that gets my support.
