Ok, so I am kind of a n00b as far as installing apps to my Axim. I'm a convert from an old iPaq PPC.

Anyway, I was trying to download Peter Ty...(blanks on last name)'s Freeware CHM reader. Managed to get it installed and the app loads, but whenever I try to open a CHM file it just pops up with the little loading wheel and never does anything else. Just sits there forever.

Only solution at that point is a soft reset. I've removed and reinstalled the app several times. Tried loading it from the .exe as well as the dev release which has all the different processor cab versions. Same issue with all of them. This was a 1mb chm file and the file opens fine on a desktop, so its not a corrupt chm file.

Any thoughts? Or any suggestions on another free CHM reader?

This is a 1 month old Axim X5 Advanced with absolutely nothing installed (except what came with it from Dell).

I tried that program once and it worked but it was extremely slow. I think this could be the case with your file as well. It's very big for the program. Just leave it there for half an hour and see what happens. I found that it is only useful for small files.

Arrrgggg... 1mb is about as small a chm as I could find. Most of the CHM's i would want to read are well over 1mb, range from 6 to 10mb.

Are there any other FREE chm readers that are suitable for larger files??

The file size is probably the problem. I don't know of any freeware that could efficiently handle large chm file. I would be interested to see if anyone know of any.

I guess I dont understand the point of a CHM reader if it chokes on CHM's of any size. How many books in CHM form are smaller then 1mb???? Certianly not more then a couple that I can find...

Thanks for the suggestion. The one from microOLAP seems to be pretty sweet. Not free though :( Call me cheap, but I was hoping to track down a working CHM Reader as freeware.
