I just got notice from Fictionwise that the final book in the Gunslinger series should be available next week. If you preorder, you get a 100% micropay rebate. Basically this means you pay for the book and you get a credit in your micropay account that you can use for future purchases. Here is a link to the Fictionwise site. Can't hardly wait for this!
WOW!
I knew about "Wolves of the Calla" [The Dark Tower 5], but I somehow missed "Song of Susannah [The Dark Tower 6]"
I haven't read Wolves yet, I decided that I would wait until he finishes the series. I read the first four as they were published. The problem was that I couldn't remember what happened in the previous book because there was such long expance of time between the releases. I hope this series turns out well. BTW, why did Roland start this quest anyway? I can't remember.
Doesn't it have something to do with the Man in Black? I've been on the quest so long I can't exactly recall. Guess I'll have to go back to the beginning :)
If you missed the FictionWise offer above, Use this special code (KING) and get 15% off of THE DARK TOWER! at eReader.com

I've decided that I'm going to go back and re-read books 1 & 4 before I begin with #5; just to get caught up.
Now, Cheryl goes and tells us that it didn't end like she thought it would. The statement is so beautifully vague that you can't tell if that was good or bad. It begs the question, 'Is the payoff worth going back and re-reading the others?'
So Cheryl, as I read this thread more closely, I take it that this book is available in E format and that you are reading it from your PPC? I haven't used my Axim yet to read a novel and may be reluctant to do so, for no other reason than it doesn't seem right (lame excuse).
BTW, did you ever read the Mission Earth series by L. Ron Hubbard?
Fictionwise has all of the Dark Tower books available in ebook format :) I had to be vague about the final book.... you wouldn't want me to give away the ending now, would you? ;)
I've never read anything by L. Ron Hubbard. Mission Earth, huh? How is that?
Mission Earth, fortunatly, doesn't have anything to do with Scientology as far as I can tell. It is a series of 10 books, a dekology, according to the publisher. It's the story of an alien race set out to capture, conquer Earth as told by the alien villian in the novel. He is a member of the Coordinated Information Apparatus (CIA). His story is more of a confession during the first eight books, then the story picks up in real time after that. The book is satire. It is a very easy read and the most wonderful part of the story is that when I was done, I was satisfied. There were no loose ends. None. All questions answered, no room for sequel.
The thing I always got a kick from was that every book begins with a translator's preface (because it is translated from Voltarian to English) stating that there is no such planet and Earth and that this story is from the mind of a mad man and not to believe a word of it.
Read some reviews; good and bad. Book should probably have an NC-17 rating for drugs and sex. It's been 15-20 years since I've read the books. Maybe my memory is tainted, but at the time, I thought they were great books.
EXCERPT:
Book Description
From Lord Invay, Royal Historian, Chairman, Board of Censors, Royal Palace, Voltar Confederacy:
"Let me state it boldly and baldly: there is no such planet as 'Earth.'
"If it ever existed at all, it certainly does not exist today or even within living memory.
"So, away with this delusion.
"On the authority of every highly placed official in the land I can assure you utterly and finally, THERE IS NO PLANET EARTH! And that is final!"
With this emphatic disclaimer, we are introduced to MISSION EARTH, an epic told entirely and uniquely by the aliens that already walk among us. Earth is to be invaded and a Royal combat engineer must cross 22 light years to secretly infiltrate the planet. He is also crossing a scheme to use the resources of Earth's most powerful figure to overthrow the confederacy.
With a convicted murderess who trains giant cat-like animals, a doctor who creates human biological freaks, a madman who controls Voltar's secret police, and clandestine Earth base in Turkey, a bizarre stage is set and narrated by an alien killer assigned to sabotage the mission and Earth - the planet that doesn't exist.
Well I bought DT7 on ebook. the first Ebook ive purchased. i got it in the ereader format which is ok, but I really wish ereader would go full screen like uBook. Nonetheless I am enjoying the book. Publishers need to get a clue. Sell EBooks for 75% of hardbackprice and then reduce them to ~ paperback price when paperback comes out. Also the selection needs to be increased. All in all I like the DRM in eReader better than .lit activations.
Reading eBooks has been something I've loved since I got my Axim. Perhaps I a confused though, I thought the whole series had been available for awhile; albeit, the last one has been a bit too pricey for me on Ebooks.com.
Anyway, everyone thought that reading from my Axim was a passing fad for me to justify my newest toy. Truth is I haven't read a paperbook in awhile. Being able to look up words at a tap is fantastic. If I am at home and read something that makes me curious I pop open PIE and go search. Also, it always remembers your place for you, even if you fall asleep reading (which I do alot).
I'd like to point out your Axim is much smaller than any book and is almost always with you. This means when you get stuck in a line or a waiting room unexpectedly you can sit and read your book. Even if it's dark :)
I have to agree, I read my ebooks at night. No booklight needed, so I dont disturb my wife. The dimmest setting is more than enough to read by in the dark. I buy alot of books but tend to look for ebook versions of them before cracking the binding.
