uBook - next version will support VGA

Just got an email from David and the next version of uBook will support VGA screens like my new X50v! This is exciting to me, as the V is made for ebook reading and ubook is my favorite reader. I can hardly wait. I do all my book reading now on my PDA.

Well, then hurry on over to http://www.gowerpoint.com The new version that supports VGA is now out!

I've been reading ebooks on Pocket PCs since they first came out. I've tried nearly all the readers and I like uBook the best of all.
I only use other readers if I'm forced to. It's going to take a while to configure it for VGA. The default has pretty tiny text. But, it's very crisp and sharp.

I agree ubook is the best reader for PPC. I've been using it exclusively for several months. But, what's with the new version 0.9a?

On the Gowerpoint website, it lists 0.9a as "unlicensed". When I installed it, it displays a splash screen every time I open a book. The splash screen says "Licensed to Demo, Please register." It's never done that before. Is ubook no longer freeware? And where do I register? There are no instructions on this. In fact, the "What's New" page at Gowerpoint still lists version 0.8o as the newest version, even though 0.9a is on the download page.

Any ideas, or should I just wait for Gowerpoint to update the webpage?

It is not donation-ware anymore. It is $12 nag-ware.

FYI the previous version works great with the VGA 'brute force' hack. Nonetheless I registered today, the guy has earned his $12.

From the website:

In the last months, the donations have trickled down and it is quite expensive to maintain µBook and this web site. So we have decided to make µBook licensing mandatory. The license price has been set to 12$ usd. People who have contributed in the past will get a license in their e-mail (write to us if you don't get one and feel/know you should have).
Without a license, µBook will nag the user by going to the About page and/or stop Auto-Scrolling every few pages.

So there is your answer!

Vanamonde: That's okay. I wasn't complaining about the licensing. As Ironchef stated, they've earned the $12. Ubook is a great product! I was just surprised to see a nag screen where none existed before.

I'll be purchasing my license when I get home from work tonight.

David , the program's author, has certainly earned the modest $12 fee he's charging now. He's always been very open to user suggesstions and comes out with frequent updates that include them.

Setting it up is a bit complex, but only because he gives you so many options. This is a good thing, as each person can configure the reader to do exactly what they want. It's definitely worth spending a bit of time in the beginning to try out the various options.

There are 2 modes - easy and advanced. The easy mode presents fewer options and the ones most folks might want to change. But, do go into the advanced mode to tweak it to just what you want.
