What's your favorite e-book reader?

What is your favorite e-book reader?

I am looking for one that can read Palm based e-books (prc and pdb), can handle non-European language (Chinese), and preferably optimized for VGA.

uBook from www.gowerpoint.com or mobipocket. I have been a longtime user of uBook and love it.

WELCOME to Aximsite and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I like Palm's eReader (Pocket PC version, free one is OK) and their selection of books has always pleased me. When I switch from Palm to an Axim, I went back and re-downloaded the books I read under a Palm and re-read some of them on my Axim. There will be other reccomendations but a book is a book and Palm's eReader has always done a good job for me, how about for you? I get the idea you have used it in the past.

Hi Shrink, I have tried uBook and Mobipocket. Both are feature-rich readers. However, neither reader supports Chinese text, although Mobipocket claims to be able to do so.

Hi Waxwing, and a Happy New Year to you too! I as you switched from Palm to an Axim, and have re-downloaded my Palm e-books (from Peanut Press) to re-read using the Palm eReader for Pocket PC.

Palm Reader for Palm OS had no problem decoding my collection of Chinese e-books, although the formatting was a bit funky. Unfortunately, Palm Reader for Pocket PC can not decode Chinese text at all. So, for now I will have to use Palm Reader only for reading Peanut Press books.

I would continue to MS Reader if I could. I had no problem with v2.2 with X5. X50v refused to activate v.2.3. I switched to Mobipocket Reader. I have to say, the autoscroll is a REALLY nice feature. It makes the lack of scroll wheel on X50v less painful.

The main reason I don't was I couldn't store my books on an external memory card and read them consistantly with MSReader for some reason, finally got tired of fighting it and settled for eReader which I liked better anyway. Seems like books for eReader are a little less expensive for the same titles too. Anyway, Happy New Year to all.......!

What he said. Maybe if I came from a PALM background I'd feel different but MS gave away more free recent books than I can read when PPC's first came out. And they've kept it up for a couple of years! That along side the free stuff from Baen and esspc have kept me happy. How recent are the PALM offerings?

I prefer MS Reader, but can't get it to work on the X50v. I also like MobiPocket. Also use, but less, ubook, and TomeRaider. Will however, really miss MS Reader if I'm unable to get it up and running. Any ideas what may be wrong with it and the X50v?

Install it in main memory to fix the activation issue or search around for the BIS/Storage card fix. I've seen it here and at Brighthand among other sites but it's to much work for me. Maybe if t-mobile goes down again I'll try it but nfor now main memory is fine.

Thanks...I'll give that a try! Hope it works. Appreciate you taking the time to respond to my problem! :approve:
