Adobe Reader - Doc Expired

I just bought an Ebook from Amazon and then I sent it to my axim by clicking "Send to Mobile Device". But when I try to open it I get this message, "There was an error opening this document. Permission to use this document has expired." I've tried remeoving it and and re-inatalling it. I've checked all of the security settings. I just can't figure it out.

Sounds to me as if it has some sort of DRM protection.

I found this at another forum and it worked for me when I tried to add another ebook to my ppc.

Can you please try the following:
1. In Windows Explorer, turn on the "Show hidden files" option. Go to Tools > Folder options > View to do this.
2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Adobe\Reader\7.0\ and then delete the Digital Editions directory. DO NOT delete the directory My Documents\My Digital Editions, because it contains your eBook.
3. Delete all PDF's from your Pocket PC device.
4. Check that your device time and zone are same as system time and zone.
5. Now Activate your desktop and your device. Add your ebooks to your bookshelf again( by the Add File option on bookshelf or download them again).
6. transfer your ebook and see if it opens.
This should work.

Here's the link also if you want it: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/w....4@.3bb7c49e/0

Sorry I didn't say what software I was talking about. It was Adobe Reader (PPC version, obviously). But I've given up trying for now. Instead I am useing MS Reader. It seems to work flawlessly and the fonts are much clearer.

I had the same problem and in searching the Adobe site, I found that it doesn't work with the PPC because there is no DRM activator available for it. I sent them an email and asked why they have ebooks in adobe format available for the pocket pc if they won't work with the pocket pc. I'm waiting for a reply. I also sent basically the same email to Amazon.

Well, uninstalled adobe 2.0 for ppc, installed adobe 7.0 (on laptop) which claims to fix the problem. removed digital rights dir (as suggested above), reactivated both my laptop and subsequently reactivated the ppc (which I had to do a hard reset on --- from what I hear, not my last!). re-transferred to the ppc my .pdf I'm trying to read and guess what... didn't work. still says
"there was an error opening this docuement. Permission to use this document has expired."

Does anyone know if this is an Adobe or MS (DRM) issue? I've seen on this and other sites that if you move to MS reader, the problem almost gone. I only have 3 ebooks in adobe and I've read 2 already. I would be willing to buy the 3rd again for ms reader if it meant I don't have to waste any more time. 3 hrs on this already -- i guess my time is worth somthing and I'd hope more than the $5 for a new ebook!

MS and DRM?

Thanks for the help,

Dave

As I mentioned in my above post, MS Reader works perfectly for me. I did have to activate it and stuff like that but it was all pretty staight forwards. And like I said the fonts are so much clearer in MS Reader. I know which one I would choose.
Good luck anyway...

One thing is most ebook libraries use adobe docs. The state of Maryland uses adobe docs. I still get the expired message when i copy the pdf docs to my ppc. I installed adobe 2.0 in SD card but don't know if this is an issue.
