I think thats a great idea. Many ppl would have many different uses for this program. One would use it while doing data entry at the office, others, like me would use it for "reading" in my bed while my wife is sleeping. She don`t like it when the light is on for like 3 hours each night and most times i sleep away and didn`t turn off the light so its on the whole night. That would maybe make me AND my wife happy
Yes, definitely interested; a Text-to-Speech program is what I have been seeking to enable a severely dyslectic person to use for reading books.
A program like this would open a whole new, and economic way of reading for these people.
I have come across Text2Speech, an audible reader, but do not find it available for the pocket PC. At http://www.text2speech.com/ they do promote licensing of their synthesizer code for inclusion in software products. This route may preclude re-inventing the wheel.
Does anyone know of a product of this type already available for the PPC?
Yes, do a Google search on FLITE Pocket PC and Text-to-speech Toshiba e800. It reads TXT files, but not anywhere near the ability to read e-books. This proposal for a vocal ebook reader is definately a missing part of the Pocket PC.
Most dyslectics are not computer users and many would have no idea that a program such as this is even possible. If available, possibly thousands could be exposed to mobile and descreet reading as never before.
Write it (the code for a program such as this) and they will come.
I found the following user rating referring to "The Classics Collection on Handango's site.
" I have downloaded my book and played it with the ebook reader. I can't believe it. It reads to me! The software from Microsoft is very nice with good bookmarks, highlights, and notes. The fact that it can read the book outloud to me using the text2speech engine makes me smile.
(obsolete email address from Albany, NY, October 17, 2002) "
However I am unable to get anything like this to work. The text2speech engine that I find seems to only be willing to open it's associated dictionaries. How can I get the text2speech engine to open and audibly read a book?
Wouldn't this application be great for the blind !!!
You Know Cooj55 You just read my mind, because if it that I think is what im looking for, I just want to read ebooks in MS Reader in my PDA, with good pronunciation, because Im learning English in this moment, And you dont have idea How I have been navigating on the internet looking for How Can I do that, and I dont know but I thought that was possible because with MS REader for your PC you listen any books that you want, I think is included with the program for PC not for Ms Reader for Pocket PC...
