But depending on your PDA and your style of reading you just have to find the one that fits you.
I did save my activation files, but when you upgrade your PPC to a newer device, the activation files from the previous PPC won't work. You can easily use up your activations by regularly changing PPC devices. Also, it isn't "simple" to save your activation files. You first have to do the research to determine which ones have to be saved. Another issue with MSReader is it virtually won't run on the X50V, unless you use third party software to make it VGA aware. Idiots at MS can't even make decent software that runs competently on devices running their own OS. Another issue. MSReader and MSMoney (another MS app) require they be installed to scarce RAM to run properly, unless you do some more research and learn how to make the geeky modifications to run them from other memory locations. I know this software is FREE, but sometimes FREE isn't worth what it costs and the books you can no longer read aren't free. This is why I will never buy a .lit formated book.

TWEAK for Mobibook

I should have attached this file the first time. If you want to use MobiPocket Reader in VGA mode (it sucks without it), just follow these directions. By the way, this can be used for ANY program you want to force into VGA mode. For example, I am using it for Mobi and Adobe Reader. I was using it for Mapopolis, but they now support VGA mode.

1. Copy the attached file into the same folder as the executable file you want to tweak. For example, copy it into the "Mobipocket.com Reader" folder, since this is where the execution file "mobibook.exe" resides.

2. Rename the first part of the file to match the name of the executable file. For Mobi, rename the file to "mobibook.exe.0409.mui"

3. Soft reset (this isn't even necessary, but doesn't hurt)

4. Start your program like normal. It will start up in VGA mode and look much sharper! If you don't like it, simply delete the file and it will return to normal mode the next time you start the program. I know my mapping program didn't work 100% using this tweak, but it was good enough in most situations.

5. Repeat for any/all programs you want to tweak.

Questions?

I'm using the 4 readers you mention plus one more.

I use all 4. I think I prefer Microsoft Reader :approve: (great to have it available again, after the recent update). But I like each of them for different reasons. I also use TomeRaider. There are a lot of ebooks, manuscripts, and articles etc. available which aren't available in my preferred reader format, I don't like to be limited. I have an extensive library and read a lot. I also don't like to pay for ebooks, when there are so many classics in the public domain that I have not read yet, which are available free for downloading.

I don't understand what you mean by that...I have never been limited as to where I could store ebooks for MS Reader. I have accessed them from CF cards, SD cards, and most recently from a Micro drive. MS Reader ferrets them out in which ever cubby hole you choose to stick them in, and lists them in the "Library."

Can I attach it directly to the Axim, or do I need to go through my PC?

Has anyone else tried this tweak? I'd like to get a little more feedback before I try it. It sounds cool, but I just want to hear from a few more of you.
Thanks.

Well, I haven't used "this" version. But, I use the VGA Brute Force hack in Tweaks2K2 and it works fine. In fact, I use it for Adobe and for Mobipocket. I assume that the Tweaks Hack is actually just an "automatic" version of the hack listed above.

Just do a search of VGA tweaks on this board and you'll find plenty of people that have used it. I've been using it for months and haven't heard one single person complain of any problems.

Oops. That's what I get for using transcriber without double checking. My question is, how do I do steps 1 and 2? When I try to open Mobipocket.com.Reader, I get the message, "There is no application associated with MobiPocket.com Reader. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application." OK. Now what do I do?

Thanks.

If you have Tweaks2k2 I believe it will automate the VGA HiRez tweak.

Having said that, I am EReader for DRM(using the vga tweak)and Ubook for unencrypted books. I used to favor .lit, but it is/was sloowwww and worked like a dog on my two previous PPCs so I have not bothered to upgrade it. I would consider buying a .lit protected book, if all can be un-DRMed via ConvertLit so I could use it in Ubook

Just follow the directions. It sounds like you are trying to run the file, which is not what I said to do. Just copy it to the Mobi folder, then rename it to the name I listed above. I can't make it any simpler than that!

All i have is a Mobipocket folder, not a Mobipocket.comReader folder. In that folder, there is a file called Mobipocket, not Mobipocket.com reader. Is that what you mean? And then attach the tweak to the end of that?

You have to use CLit (Sorry for the pun, but that's what it's called) to convert them over to read them with Mobi.

By the way, what's the VGA Hack for Mobipocket called? Where can I get it?
