Do any readers support reading of MS Word documents? I downloaded the free version of Mobipocket. Unless i'm missing something, I don't see that you can read Word documents from there. Do any of the readers help with this?
I can do that with many. But some are formatted strangely. For example, if someone indents a bit too much after a bullet, you can be left with a very narrow column (say, on the right) with 2 or 3 words on a line at a time, making it difficult to read. It's not a crisis, just a bit difficult at times. However, when formatted correctly, PW usually works ok for me.
You can also try TextMaker which does a great job at preserving WORD formatting. Unfortunately, it is not free but there are deals on it every once in awhile. At least check out the demo. :)
I got textmaker when it was 50% off. I'm so glad I bought it because it has perfect conversion between PC and PPC. Plus it has all the features of what the PC version has.
I don't think the PC version of TextMaker is Mac compatible. But the reformatting/conversion takes place on Activesync. So if you have Activesync on your mac the conversion part is compatible. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.
I find TextMaker to be very reliable. There are a very few things the desktop version of Word does that it cannot do (like track changes), but it is good.
If you want to preserve formating and have a program that allows you to read, add notes, and highlight text (but not actively edit the text) I would recommend REPLIGO. I use repligo for reading all my Word and PDF documents. I also use their desktop conversion utility to download and read webpages offline. Highly recommended.
I usually convert all of my word documents to LIT flies and use MS Reader to read them. There is a free converter on the MS Office site and it works very well. Sometimes you may have some minor changes or conversion issues but its pretty convient for me. I have a lot of work documents converted and it has served me well.
I use the MS Reader converter also. It installs an icon on your MS Word taskbar. Once you have saved an open Word document, all you have to do is hit the icon and it will convert automatically for you. It converts the document to read in MS Reader on your PDA and saves it in a separate library under your Documents. I have found it keeps most formatting intact.

Which is the best if you only want to use one application?
My main purpose would be to view invoices and proposals created in Word and Excel.

I use clearvue to read (native) word documents where the formatting is important
