Microsoft Reader now compatible with X50v

Microsoft updated its Reader and it appears the update was especially meant for us X50 users!

Installed fine, and as long as you don't delete the Microsoft Activation program along with the 2.3 version of MS Reader before installing you won't have to re-activate.

This fixed that annoying loadiding lag and all the stylus functions work great without the VGA Brute Force Hack.

I installed to Main Memory.

Interesting. The previous version installed was 2.3 and this would not activate. The new v 2.4 activates without any problem. Many thanks for the heads up. :approve:

I got an error message "You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation. Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later".

Since I am running WM 2003 SE A02 upgrade this seemed rather ridiculous !

Microsoft, as usual, were completely unhelpful.

The v 2.4 versino does not have this problem.

I have installed the 2.4 version in Main Memory. Will it run in BIS ?

That message was what people got when they tried to install in BIS with version 2.3.

I hope some brave soul gives it a go in BIS.

We just have to watch for another "I can't Activate MS Reader" post I guess.

I installed to BIS with no problem. I had to create a new shortcut for my programs folder but otherwise no trouble at all :yeah:

Does anyone know if uninstalling will cause you to loose your bookmarks?

No. V 2.3 was pre-installed in the Windows folder and it still would not Activate.

I deleted 2.3 using Remove Programs and I have now installed the new v 2.4 in Main Memory (the Windows folder), Activated it successfully and transferred it to BIS using Resco Explorer 2003 cut and paste. I also transferred the two small files msreader-exe-manifest.sig (804 bytes) and msreader-exe.sig (244 bytes) to BIS. MS Reader remains Activated and runs perfectly.

I have also noticed another peculiarity. When 2.4 was in Windows, the back and forward arrows beside the page numbers were represented by the numerals 3 and 4 respectively (very peculiar, v 2.3 did exactly the same). But on transferring it to BIS the arrows sumbols are now correctly represented. :approve:

Yes it will. You will also lose your Annotations - at least the new version will not reconise them even though they are still there in My Library\Annotations (on my SD card in my case). This is also very strange as the e-books themselves in My Library are recognised.
